The container store sells a spring-loaded quarter dispenser that has a clip (to clip to your belt). It clips nicely to the cup holder that is inside the center console, and you can still use the cup holder because the dispenser is on the outside of the cup holder.
I put mine in a plastic cap from a shaving can that I keep inside the cup holder under the armrest. You don't have to lift the armrest up that much, and I don't have to dig with my fingers to find the right coins, I just lift out the cap take the coins I need then return the cap to the cup holder. If I have a need for the under armrest cup holder, I put the cap of coins under the center console till the cup holder is free.
How about using one of these in a cup holder? Bell Coin Holder What I did for myself was purchase custom tray for the bottom of the console. I have family in Japan who was able to get me one for a fractice of what they charge on eBay. I then obtained a cheap covered bamboo container and keep my change there. No noise to hear since the container absorbs the rattles...
The problem with those Bell coin holders is that they are for pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. What use is there for a penny nowadays? Or even a nickel or dime most of the time? I had a coin holder that had only quarter sized slots in my last car. I am going to try to adapt it to the top of the Bell ash tray with some sort of silicone glue.
