Thank you, Pat. It was late last night and I didn't follow the rules the last time. I looked at a picture from the Australian Toyota Prius site, but it didn't quite show the EV button. Are you quite sure, priusuk2008, about the placement? On left drive US cars there is a place for three switches to the left of the steering wheel column, only one of which is populated by the dash lights dimmer switch. On the Toyota UK site, which uses Flash so I can't just copy a picture address, the picture of the steering wheel in the Gallery shows the EV switch on the right, or is that the dimmer again? What's that "car" shaped button? OK, for my challenge, here's a part I've never seen, and I doubt it's ever this clean.
Location: Mounted at rear (or, since engine is transverse-mounted, left-hand side) of engine block; must remove transaxle to view Purpose: Transmission Input Damper Assembly which smooths engine power pulses to reduce drivetrain vibration
That was easy! Yes, it's the Prius "clutch." Way to go, Patrick. I'll have to take my own picture next time. We await your challenge!
A black cable is running to a part. Please identify the location and purpose of this part. Hint #1: This is associated with an optional feature. Hint #2: This is not mounted on the bottom of the car. Hint #3: This is located in the rear of the vehicle. Hint #4: This is located within 3 feet from the rear view camera assembly. Hint #5: No tools are required to gain access for this photo.
I think I know it but I have been having too many guesses so I don't want to guess. Someone guess, come on, someone.
Hi Bill, yes I'm certain because I use it every day. Attached a pic below and from Patsparks comments on a rhd vehicle too, it appears that Toyota just stick this button wherever they deem it might fit. The button next to it in my car is to activate or deactivate the rear camera for reversing. On the rhs of the steering column, there is a thumbwheel for lights height adjustment (not to be confused with seat height adjustment )
:bump2: Hi Pat, As of this writing no one has ventured a guess, so I edited my post #264 to include a hint. If your car is indeed a base model, it probably does not have this part installed. I encourage you, or anyone else, to put forth your best guess!
location of part in question: mounted under floor of car above rear axle, connected to rear axle by ball and socket arm purpose of part: HID lamp leveling [side note: semester is almost over! soon DH won't be occupied at all hours and can play more.]
Well I'll have a stab at reversing camera in the tailgate just below the lift handle or there abouts, I never looked to see where the camera is.
Is it the electrical connection for the eye level brake light built into the rear spoiler? Is it worth remembering that what ever is in the first post (where Patrick is putting hints) may or may not be true.
Five truthful hints now posted at my msg #264. No more hints, I will now see whether I can run out the clock at 72 hours!
Based on hints, Location: rear hatch door Purpose: connector to pressure sensitive SKS release rubber strip The back end of the car contains at most optional SKS and reversing camera.
Hi Bill, Congratulations, with just a few minutes to spare you are a winner! The photo shows the back of the square black rubber switch for SE/SS. I am looking forward to seeing your next photo!
How very curious. I presumed that Toyota made the right and left hand drive cars with as many common parts as possible. However, your power button is in the A/C vent cover and ours is on the dash to the left of the MFD. They had to make a special right side vent cover for one of us!.
