Maybe cruise the Modification forum here, I know I have seen people talk about replacing their emblems, maybe someone has one they'd be willing to part with in that case.

But I too wonder if you were quoted the price for the one with the radar doohicky. I can't see that ugly emblem (my first instinct was to say someone had done you a favor) being that pricey.

which package do you have cause you have a Canadian package listed but you're in California.

If you had the AT package, I can see $900 being reasonable because it's tied to the radar system. If you don't have the AT package, then that's just outright robbery. An emblem isn't that expensive (heck a set of front/rear emblems with TOYOTA and the model's name costs $200 tops)

Shouldn't a dealer run the BS flag up for $900 for a cheap piece of plastic? Gotta be a mis-quote or somebody is being dishonest. If Toyota were charging prices that high, then our insurance rates will skyrocket.
    Call another dealer.
Is there no direct parts sales for Toyota like gmpartsdirect.com ?

If the OP has an ATP car the quote may have been for a radar antenna instead of the front emblem?

I just took a look at mine and the emblem on radar equipped cars is different in the front than the one in the back. It is just a piece of flat plastic, the one in back has the Toyota insignia raised. The front emblem is about 2 or 3 inches in front of the radar antenna and is held on with two phillips screws. If you took the black plastic piece which covers the top of the radiator off (held on with pop offs) it looks like it would be easy to get to.

I would guess it is different because it needs to be transparent to the radar's wavelength.

I agree, and I think it's possible the parts department guy looked up the wrong part number. Even BMW wouldn't charge that much.

I don't think this is what happened, but this reminds me of an episode of The Simpsons where the punks that went to school with Bart would take the emblems/hood ornaments off of cars and put a chain oh them to wear as "Bling", then to fit in, Bart ends up cutting off the emblem/hood ornament off the top of Mr. Burns' car and gets caught in the process

It is a very thin, plastic piece. I've seen it from the back, recently, because I had the entire bumper off of the car. I wasn't looking to remove the emblem, but it appeared to be attached by being screwed into a bracket (hence the screws you noted).

I just cannot believe it is a $900 piece. It is plastic with a fancy "paint" job!

The buggers took it because it is worth $900, so on the black market maybe $50.

the V with AT has the radar sensor behind it...if that is intact, you should be able to go with the ebay solution above or have the dealer lookup an emblem from a model IV prius which should be much cheaper. If the thug did take your front radar sensor, you're assed out and probably want to pursue the insurance option.

this is definitely a watchout for those of you with V/AT prius'...maybe someone will have to hack a locking device together for the front emblem or something...

I think the emblem for the ATP cars (with radar) is different. It doesn't have any metal in it and it is just a flat cheap looking piece of plastic. The normal emblem from non-radar equipped cars most likely has metal in it and won't work with the radar.

The radar unit is behind the badge, but the two are not physically connected. It is one thing to remove that badge, but an entirely separate and more difficult event removing any part of the radar unit.

To reach the radar unit you need to go in from the back, via the engine compartment, or from the front, after having removed the front bumper assembly. It is an unfortunate thing for me, but I have seen this.

I am concerned that the badge may be stolen and the bumper damaged by vandals, but I'm not too concerned the radar unit will be stolen.

I'm also more than a little surprised, miffed, even upset, that the replacement price for that plastic badge is $900.

I just don't buy it. That's not Toyota's style and it just doesnt make sense. My guess is that the 900 price is for the whole front nice person'y. I have seen other threads that reference an $800 price tag for the front radar unit so that price makes sense for that. I'm sure the plastic cover isnt cheap...but i guarantee you that it's not $900.

I agree, that just seems wrong. I too have seen the $800 quote for the radar antenna and I think the parts guy just looked up the wrong number. Unless the emblem isn't sold separately? they wouldn't do that would they?

LoL...i guess that might be the case. Maybe the PC store can hook up a "made in china" connection for just the plastic cover to save the package V owners of the forum... ???

I was just at the parts counter this morning, and I didn't even think to ask about this one!

The radar unit and the emblem are not physically connected, so there is no reason to sell them together. The emblem is attached to the entire front bumper assembly, so perhaps that is the quote. I'll try to find my recent quote for that part (the entire assembly) and see what they say. (In fact, if the assembly is still in the shop (with an extra emblem), I'll see if I can't get it for less than $800!!:D

If it really is $900 maybe we should go into the front emblem business. ;)

    Update on Pricing:

I've just received the invoice for the work on my car. The new front bumper cover (the entire plastic piece including the grill covers and the surrounds for the fog lamps and parking lamps) cost me (well, the other guy's insurance company) $237.46. This does NOT include the plastic emblem. I'm trying to get a quote on this later today.

Painting and installing the bumper cover ran $239.20 in labor. Attributable paint supplies ran about $151.00, while taxes added another $15.69.

The grand total for replacing the front bumper (cover) was $643.35.

I'm figuring the emblem has got to be in the range of $25 to $50, tops, but I'll try to find out more later today.

I finally figured out WHY the Prius V emblem is SO expensive!

I can't believe it wasn't pointed out earlier!

    <====== See the avatar?

Well . . . There's only one like that, and I found it floating in the middle of John Muir Woods. That one is priceless.

The others should be about $19.95 each.
