Sorry to hear your catalytic converter has been stolen twice from your Gen 2 Prius.
It would appear that you’re the first confirmed member who has had their catalytic converter stolen twice.

Could you please confirm that you had an original OEM catalytic converter installed after the first theft? How much did the replacement cost? Was it replaced by insurance or you paid out of your own pocket for it?

It’s a shame that you’ve had to sell your reliable Prius just because of unchecked criminal activity.

I sincerely hope you reported both incidents to the Police, regardless of their seeming indifference to this Grand Theft CAT epidemic.

I believe at least two 3rd generation Prii have been reportedly attacked in this manner so far. One of them was allegedly a plug-in.

    Hope that answers your question.

Gen3 thefts are almost unheard of, the few accounts that have been reported may have just been the thieves trying their luck and experimenting.

The Gen3 is ALOT more expensive than Gen2, your looking at £8000+ for something decent.

The lack of police intervention on this is disturbing. You would think they would set up a task force for the number of Prius getting their cats robbed in London. Am I missing something?

The police really don’t give a shit. Basically. Mine was stolen on the 8th March, just noticed the letter saying that the case was closed was dated the 10th March, that says it all. Had a moan on Twitter the other day to Kent police, they private messaged me asking for the crime reference number so they can provide me with an update on the case, took a photo of the letter stating the number, and they told me the number given was wrong. Work that one out.

So, is this proof they’re actually making some of the cases disappear down a black hole to hide the true gravity of these dastardly thefts (and consequently, the ineptitude of the UK Police)....or was that just another unofficial excuse cynically used for lackadaisically fobbing off the very downtrodden citizens (a.k.a. vulnerable crime victims) they are sworn to protect?

See? We already live in a dystopian nightmare....unfortunately most of the populace simply have no idea.

Stop the planet. I want to get off. The fail is too great

Police cant do anything without evidence , even the CCTV in some cases the the thugs are covering their faces, you wont be able to prove anything in court.

Bottom line is if someone wants to screw around with your car at 2am in the morning when your asleep in bed theres nothing you can do about it. ( unless you own a garage )

just have to hope the thieves recognize all the low hanging fruit has now been picked and this little gold rush is over.

I have recently returned from a trip to Greece. Athens to be precise and I can confirm that a Gen 2 Prius motor car had its CAT stolen. I know that noise anywhere. It happened at Athens International Airport (a truly Godforsaken place and no mistake) but that is no excuse for stealing CATS. None whatsoever!!

Maybe the thieving morons have moved onto mainland Europe now. Let us hope the thieving scumbags succumb to some Greek justice and end up at the bottom of the Aegean Sea.

Man all I can say is I’m glad they don’t steal cats where I live in California like they do in London. I have 2 4 runners, a Tacoma pickup and a Prius in front of my house. Imagine the carnage.

Here’s another UK catalytic converter theft from the Daily Mail Online.
It’s not quite over yet for us

Paradoxically, there’s crystal clear photos identifying two of the bastards calmly carrying out these crimes as if it’s their express entitlement.

With these pictures and footage, you’d think these bastards would already be apprehended and locked up.

The reality? All comments for this article were moderated to the point where NOBODY WAS ALLOWED TO SAY A WORD...!!!

That, is now the kind of oppressive country the UK has now become. The criminals get a free pass and the rest of us get the finger from the press and law enforcement.

The press don’t want the identities of these parasitic life forms (or anything about them) revealed online - probably from fear of upsetting law enforcement.

The Police now distinguish themselves by having irrefutable evidence and still not giving a flying foxtrot.

    Welcome to Dystopian UK......

"Dr Shriram Rabinthiran shared the footage of the crooks, getting the last laugh "
"A doctor has turned the tables on thieves who targeted his car by releasing up-close video of the crooks responsible."

That reporting is a bit premature. Over here, 'tables are not turned', the 'victim doesn't get the last laugh', until something actually happens to the perps. Otherwise, they win.

Wow. All I can say is you get the government you vote for. We know in the US that you can’t vote for the monarchy but they basically have no real power. You CAN vote for people that change things. You seem to want change, your gonna have to work to get it. My opinion is if you spent the time working with a candidate that could help you rather than complain you could effect change.

You’re right. Rest assured that I’m passionately working on that front too!
In general, this Governments lackadaisical “f*ck off” attitude towards the voters has opened the voters eyes like never before.

Come election time, there WILL be massive changes around here. Enough is enough.

We will not go on like this.

But that's the thing, in the car park I was in, there was CCTV, the centre said that it wasn't pointing at the car in the 4 hours I was there for, however you would think it may have been worth checking the cctv to see any suspicious activity. The police couldn't even be bothered to tell me if they had checked it or not. I still believe the cctv wasn't working and no one can be bothered to tell me the truth.

It's the Daily Mail newspaper, or the 'Daily Fail', as some call it.

Aye! The Daily Fail....that purveyor of the Grand literary title:

    The Gutter Press.....

That rag is like an infinite car crash; you know there’s gonna be the most horrendous journalistic carnage....but you can’t quite look away.

Basically, it serves as decidedly low-brow amusement. You certainly don’t take it seriously - as a general rule, I do not.....

I feel your pain. Had exactly the same thing happen to me. Same time frame as well. The garage told us there's been so many thefts the price of the replacement cats has doubled. I've also been on the hunt for info but haven't found anything apart from people chatting here about it.

I'm taking the lack of complaints about stolen Gen 3 cats to be a good sign. <fingers crossed>

Wow, Battery, Cat. I could see why the scrap value of my totaled Prius was so high.

On the other hand I am also the proud owner of a 1999 Honda Accord V6 with a stolen Cat.
It was an ugly disembowelment though. Needs a exhaust header pipe and tail pipe to replace it though.
Wasn't as neatly cut as I see in these pictures. These amateurs took the whole mounting flange and everything .

I wonder if there is a chassis tie in kit for a Gen 4 ???

I don’t think the cat in the fourth generation has any value.

It’s only the second generation ones which are so lucrative due to the high precious metal content.
