They could, if it wouldn't upset some of their customer base.

There is a spring in the Sonic and Cruze headlight switch that pops it back to Auto/DRL when switched to off. So you have to turn the lights off everytime you start the car if you don't want them on. People have disassembled their switch in order to remove the spring and keep the switch in the off position.

Saw my second smart ED yesterday.

I have still only seen that one red one in the wild so far. I'm really looking around for them whenever I'm out. I'm torn between wanting to see one ("Yay! A Prime!") and not wanting to not find any at all before I get mine ("Ha! I'm the first!").

Lots and lots of 4th gen Priuses around here.

I saw my first Bolt in the wild today.

I think I see more aging gen2s here than gen4s.

On to my 4th Prime sighting - pretty impressive considering the Prime isn't sold here yet (still only in Quebec).

Lots of Gen 2s and Gen 3s here. Beginning to see more Gen 4s, but still no Prime. I would have thought there'd be a couple around now that the mothership is here.

I know I just posted something similar a week or so ago, but just saw yet another of my Prime's "doppelgangers" (same color at least) in my neighborhood. Not the same as the other 2 I saw, as this one had some little stickers in the window and such. Still much less ubiquitous than the Gen4s though. Interestingly, I've seen almost NO Hyudai Ioniqs on the road (yes, they're much newer, but still, CA is as Hyundai-friendly as it is Toyota-friendly -- and the Ioniq comes in 3 versions, hybrid, electric, or plug-in). To date, other than one test car I saw before it was officially released, I've only encountered one "normal" Ioniq on the road, that's it.

Going by sales, the Niro would be more common than the Ioniq.

I see lots of Ioniqs around here compared to what it seems like the rest of the country is seeing.

Perhaps Hyundai is just willing to ship cars to places that want to buy them.

Could be. From the number of Sonatas and Elantras I see, someone must be giving them away here.

I believe Hyundai gives Accents free to Hertz. That was a truly primitive driving experience.

So, okay... a Prime, an Ioniq, and a Volt step into a bar... :)

Well it's strange because SoCal is Hyundai's National HQ (Toyota has since moved to Texas). And I saw an early Ioniq being driven by a Hyundai employee before they went on sale (the guy was nice enough to let me get in it months before it went on sale officially) but I don't see them anywhere. I actually have seen way more hydrogen Mirais (and they're still pretty rare) than Ioniqs. Not to diss them, I just thought I'd see more of them, esp since it's the same chasis/body for hybrid, plug-in, and electric.

Even though Calif is Prime "Prime" country, most people still don't know about it (including other Prius owners) who aren't quite sure what it is I drive...

Part of Hyundai's sales pain right now is that they are cutting back on fleet sales.

I'm pretty sure the Ioniq didn't get to dealers until late; the electric and hybrid have only been out for part of 2017. The PHEV isn't available in the US yet.

Some of the issues have to do with corporate. With SUV sales up, Hyundai has been doing poorly, and the USA CEO was let go earlier this year.
