    The Supercars produced by the Big 3 were diesel electric hybrids.

    Ford Prodigy--72mpg range 660 miles
    GM Precept--80mpg range 380 miles
    D-C ESX3--72mpg range 660 miles

    using the 2000 EPA test as reported by the Chicago Trib. The Federal government produced an official prototype and one mule.

    Toyota's project in response to Supercar resulted in the production Prius on sale while the US was still assembling the prototypes.
