Standard Prius Prime Charger (G9060-47130) supporting 240V

    Maybe the most expensive / heavily optioned versions get the better charger? That's how it is with the rav4 prime.
    Maybe that's why sites like Edmunds says otherwise;

    So the gen 5 went to 3.5, good source.
    What I am finding is any old wall outlet is not necessarily at 120 volts under a 12 amp load, if that is the supply voltage from the utility. I think most people myself included think a wall plug is a wall plug and works fine. Not true.

    Sorry, I thought you were asking if you could 'adapt' an L1 EVSE to use it on 240V.

    If you already have an L2 EVSE with a 240V connector and a dedicated 240V outlet to plug into,,, You're fine.

    What was the question in the first place?

    Now what are you talking about?(n)

    A 120V outlet is always on, at the very least, a 15A circuit breaker, possibly an 20A.
    And that is why EV manufacturers selected 12A as the max an L1 EVSE can pull. The 80% rule.

    Some manufacturers have the car default to 8A for safety/lawyer reasons, and you must select the car to charge at 12A on an L1.

    Are you talking about the voltage 'sag' under load? That always happens. Open voltage vs Full Load voltage.

    Are you talking about old outlets having their sockets not providing the 'Pin Grip' on the plug?
    That is an issue, true.
    And that is why some EVSE manufacturers have a temp sensor in the plug to tell if the conductivity through the connection is bad and heat is developing.

    This. Yes I have a cheap 240 v evse from Amazon. I wouldn’t adapt my expensive Toyota one to more as it says 12 amps on it. Others say it works, that’s their decision. I’m not adapting the $100 Chrysler one I bought either, even if people say they did it on Pacifica forums. I don’t know how making the neutral into a hot works inside the evse, and now don’t need to know. I like the Chrysler one, pretty nice.
