That's not a hole. It's a black rubber button as part of the Smart Key System. The Gen III hides the lock button underneath the rear plinth, next to the unlock button.

That, and the sides are much deeper.. "more surface area" as when you rest your arm in the window, its now higher... gives the car a "pacecar look" to me.

Took me a while to find it.. I had to actually look underneath to see it.. its a little tit just to the right of the open button.

I used to better at finding those! ;)

When I saw that at Detroit, I figured a few 2G owners might have a little problem with it, not because they can't find it but they might accidentally press it to unlock the car cause we're used to a full length release button.

Well it was overwhelming for a lot of us. I don't know about you, but I forgot about the food! I only had a few bites.

the panel under the bottom rear glass goes all the way across the hatch, the Gen II was a littel ove a foot wide.

The rear above the licens plate there is a line that runs from sideto side on the Gen III. On the Gen II there isn't one there. Plus tires are different. Color choices. And much more

It's the one that looks way hotter on the road (Gen3).

I see them all the time on the freeway. The Gen3 looks much bolder and stout. The swept back roofline looks a lot more like a 'fastback' type of car.

I think Toyota did a very good job, though not a huge fan of the full plastic wheel covers and the plastic inserts where fog lights would be on a Prius V.

The stubby antenna of the Gen III is easy to spot. From the side, I look for the "Nike Swoosh" of the tail light (I'm not a big fan of the Batman). I tried counting the number of reflectors on the tail light (two for Gen II and one for Gen III) but it is too hard to do when the car is moving. If approaching from the front, it has to be the fog lamp location (real or plastic). If approaching from behind, it is the Toyota logo and/or the antenna.

for me, it's the shape of the front headrests. the gen III are taller and more rectangle.
