But shoes need to look good, as well as be comfortable. Some need to be more functional, like hikers. Others are meant for scoring style points. Don't tell me you're one of those guys who owns only 3 pairs. :)

    (I have a shoe fetish)

I always wondered why they put the spare in with the air valve facing down. No wonder people never check inflation of the spare. And, no, they shouldn't be solid, either. Imagine having a huge load in your car and then you have a flat. That solid tire will hammer everytime you hit a bump.

Spare tire on a Volt? That would be a spare patch kit.

I am similar. I have my old man sandals, then my Jesus sneakers, one pair of tennis shoes, a pair of Crocs and my never to be worn but Sundays and funerals Ecco City black leather tie up shoes. I had a bunch more but I gave the rest away, I don't need them anyway.

I own about 8 pairs, and none of them were bought based on looks, nor have any of my clothes, electronics, cars, or pretty much anything else I've bought. Now, things I've *built*, is another story.

When it comes to shoes I am about comfortable. And it may hurt once but never again. The same way about cars, dogs and women.

If your teenage son had to pay for the gas he used, he might become more fond of the Prius.

I would think a solid donut spare would be quite heavy too.

No it doesn't. That plus very small cargo space keeps the Volt off our shopping list.

Ah yes I agree. He currently has a diesel 8-cyl military Chevy truck that drinks fuel. He has gotten the message about fuel and is looking at a 2012 Nissan Frontier. The mileage still sucks but it's better than the Chevy which we call The Beast.
