    Three years after setting the goal, Toyota’s 2.8 liter 1GD-FTV engine reaches a thermal efficiency of 44 percent, which makes it, says Toyota, “one of the most thermally efficient engine in existence.”

    Details about that engine and its siblings: can be found in a press release dated June 19th.

    This is why I stated the color black would be a good choice. An all black will neutralize that hideous c pillar cut out and make it look part of the rest of the car.

    the gen2 was a better hypermiler, with a higher potential to exceed the official rating. The gen3 is just more efficient overall, but can't be push as high, percentage wise, as the gen2.

    Toyota sticks with NiMH because they have a large, financial investment in it. They secured production and nickel supplies down to the mine level to reduce their battery cost back when the gen2 became a really successful. The others switched to Li-ion, in part, because of Toyota's move. They couldn't compete with the cost difference between what they paid and Toyota paid for batteries, and there was a risk that if there was a battery shortage, they would be cut off.

    Then Toyota is a conservative company, and NiMH has a proven track record for reliability. Li-ion hybrids have been on the road for 5 years to the NiMH's 15 plus.

    Right now NiMH and Li-ion batteries are very close in cost. It is likely still cheaper for Toyota to use NiMH, but Li-ion batteries have been steadily dropping in price
    It's US gallons, but a direct conversion of the JC08 test results.
    And they just increased the efficiency of their diesels.

    As long as Li-ion perform as well in the cold, and degrades same or less over time as Ni-MH, then I'm onboard.

    That does look better, how is the vision rearward? It might be a blind spot. But, with a rear view camera it shouldn't make any difference. Blind Spot Lane Monitoring is an option on Camry that would work well in any vehicle. It works for me, no changing lanes into cars that come out of nowhere. Gen 4 would be a perfect candidate for it.

    There's a lot of Prius in private hands. We'll see a lot of them scattered around parking lots. It's only when I see something like a Civic hybrid that I get excited: THOSE are rare birds.

    And yeah Prius is a very common cab. We got "hailed" once, lol. Prius v showed up in a big way too, when they first came out. A fair number of v cabs too.

    Seems now like our nearby dealership has little or no zero Prius for sale tho. And any ads you see are typically for v or c, and even that's dried up. Strange.

    Gen4 is almost as wide as the Prius v. The height is the same as Gen3 but with lower center of gravity. The hood is much lower. It is going to drive so differently and with higher power to weight ratio, it may blow us away. ;)

    Although the wheel base is exactly the same, the car is longer especially beyond the rear wheel. I think that'll make it more aerodynamic due to boat-tailing effect. Still a kammback hatch.

    Toyota has facilities at Port of Portland (Terminal 4) and Port of Long Beach (B82, B83). I imagine they ship the Prius to both ports.

    Let me introduce some of you to the floating roof c-pillar, :D
    The floating roof c-pillar is going to nice with tint, but will lose the effect in darker color.
    Also, less blindspot of the pillar with an additional window.

    Competition is good. Toyota is so conservative, they need someone like Hyundai to rattle their cage once in a while. My question is why does the Hyundai Hybrid still use a transmission?
