It can't. But the depression in the sheet metal for the temp spare, under the hatch floor, is NOT 22".

On our gen 3, the temp spare fits in just nice. It's barely 25" (maybe 1/8" less), and the side walls are very rounded, almost like a motorcycle tire. It fits.

OTOH, dropping one of our regular tires in there, I found (due to more squared-up shoulders, and full 25" OD) it was chafing the sidewalls of the depression, and the increased tire width meant if you tried to reassemble it with the hatch deck it was riding high by an inch or two, and not really stable.

Let the air out. Then carry a 12v powered air compressor...

With the temp spare? in the correct size? I see no reason to do that. Look at the pics above: my hand fits between the spare and the sidewall of the well. I used the excuse to top it up.

Yep, I agree....it shouldn't be impossible to buy an affordable temp spare for ANY vehicle.

But with more and more car makers going to the dumb inflators and "fix a flat" spray cans, there isa growing market for them so hopefully some entrepreneurs step up!! Supply and demand and folks are demanding big time!!

So, when are YOU going to start that "Spare Tire" business?
