South Park to go after hybrids!

I found the repetitive smelling of one's own farts unclear; and in the end annoying. The smugness bit was spot on.

My son says the fart bit was a metaphor for cleaner than clean emmisions -- from both driver and car.

Any other takes ?

I'm not sure it's quite that deep. I think it's just the authors' way of getting their brand of humor into the episode, making fun of how righteous people (regardless of what they are righteous about) often feel that EVERYTHING about themselves is beyond reproach.

From the script of the episode, during the section Gerald is giving out fake tickets:

Gerald: Look, I'm just trying to make the people of South Park aware of a very serious problem.

Randy: The problem, Gerald, is that ever since you got a hybrid car, you've gotten so smug that you love the smell of your own farts!

Gerald: Oh! I'm sorry! I didn't think it was "high and mighty" to [closes his eyes] care about the earth!

Randy: And that too! Stop talking with your eyes closed! That's what smug people do!

Gerald: Well, I really don't see how [closes his eyes] that has anything to do with the-

Randy: There, like that! Stop that!

 

I get it !

I just rewatched the episode. Actually both plates (yes the two plates seen appear to be the same) look more like "1TMYMPG" rather than "1NMYMPG," so that becomes 1 (or rather ONE) + T= WANT.

Now, whether that means (I) WANT MY MPG or WANT MY MPG(?) is anyone's guess.

 

If you have a video iPod you might be able to download an ep as a Podcast.

You will need a current version of iTunes to view it as a podcast iTunes.

There are plenty of South Park related podcasts that are free.

 

My wife just watched the episode on Tivo and she thinks I may be a little bit smug. I can't seem to convince her that just because I'm smarter and wiser doesn't mean I think I'm better than everyone. I mean, that guy who cured polio was probably better me.

I didn't get the fart jokes though, I've never farted?

You must have a really crappy TV to tolerate the low quality encoding that can be done that quickly.

If I happen to forget to record a show broadcast in HD, I want the 1280x720 XviD encode, preprocessed with multiple AviSynth filters. Even a multi-processor Opteron 64 system can't do that in real-time. I'd rather wait a couple hours (in the case of HD content) to get something watchable than get crap immediately.

 

I thought the episode was funny, though I too didn't get the fart jokes.

However, my teenage son thought that was the funniest part. I was shocked!

Now my son teases me, saying that I think I'm better than everyone else because I drive a Prius. That's ridiculous. I thought I was better than everyone else long before I bought a Prius

Ever heard the expression "they think their sh*t doesn't stink"?

I'm sure the censors wouldn't have allowed the hybrid drivers to defecate, and then sniff the results, so smelling their own farts was probably the closest the writers could get.

I was disgusted by all the fart jokes. But I laughed at them too. I'm so ashamed of myself. I don't deserve to be a hybrid driver.
