Solar panel system for the home?

Just to add a point. PV of any sort needs "battery" in nearly any incarnation. In a grid tie situation the " battery" is the grid. With out a stable grid or battery no inverter in the world will work well if at all. (an inverter converts PV or battery DC to useful AC.). You can run a few things directly from PV DC, most notably fans, but very little else.
