so I want to beat My friends mustang

I guessed the "still in school" part. Maybe next year when you get to High School you'll take the right courses to figure out the answers to your questions yourself. Hint: they're the ones that involve math. But taking an English course or two would be helpful, too.

 

You are not going to beat a Mustang anywhere with a Prius short of very expensive and detailed modifications resulting in (most likely) completely ruining the car. Enjoy the priviledge of using the Prius for what it is intended for... great economy, good comfort, clean air, and a high level of safety.

if you want to beat a Mustang, or anything else on the road, buy something inexpensive and old, with rear wheel drive and a V8. Learn how to reduce weight and increase power and efficiency.

When you want to test your car, take it to your local drag strip where they will provide a free safety inspection and you can have a printout of the incremental times and speed of your vehicle.

The Prius is a great vehicle but I would highly caution you about doing your own work on a car as refined as the Prius in terms of technology until you have some real experience with working on cars in general.

When i was younger I went through several old and inexpensive cars making a great many mistakes but fortunately I learned a bit about how cars work and that knowledge has served me well over the years.

 

Great post. Your last sentence more clearly describes what I was referring to in my earlier post. I too made a lot of mistakes in the high school days modifying cars (I graduated in '94). Now, with the Prius, these mistakes would cost 10x's more $$$ than if you were to make them in say a Mustang. This is due to the complexity of the hybrid system.

 

there was that datsun that had the streetsweeper motors in it.....it only ran on 3 or 6 car batteries

 

Just plan an endurance race. Texas to CA, the one who spends less money on gas wins

Don't mind the hating... you're a new poster and unfortunately there are a lot of trolls out there that sign up with the intention of getting a argument back and forth. Many here take offense to anyone who owns a Prius for any purpose other than getting the absolute maximum MPG. Using terms like player, and hating... and your username, "ballin'" (most don't know what a baller is here on the forum) tells me that most would label you as a "young punk" if they were to meet you in person. I'm not one to pass judgment, just tellin' you how it is and why there are those that are "hatin'" on you.

The Prius is built from the ground up for fuel efficiency and a comfortable family car. Nothing about it is designed for a sports car, so you're fighting against its nature just to get the performance a mustang GT is built with. So there's that realization some people are trying to force on you. Also, most people buy the Prius for the fuel efficiency, because they don't want to waste a precious resource (oil). There's a months-long waiting list for people who want to buy the Prius. You've been given a Prius by your parents and want to use it like some cheap Camaro. There's going to be some sour grapes, at least some head-shaking by older, wiser? people.

Some people have put a lot of techical knowledge and time into improving the capabilities of the Prius, but almost entirely for the purpose of improving the gas mileage, occasionally for handling or appearance or extra cargo. Look in the modifications forum.

Two points: 1) from what I've briefly Googled, 28 mpg would be excellent for a Mustang GT, 38 is pretty much out of the question except for coasting down a hill.
2) You're not going to gain the respect of people who put their own money on a Prius if you don't even bother to spell it correctly. Most of us here take the time to write with proper grammar and spelling and don't appreciate fast texting skills (which does have a purpose for some). We know you know how to spell Prius because it's in your user name, so why mis-spell it unless you are deliberately taunting us?

Final thought - could a TCH (Camry Hybrid) engine be put in a Prius? I have no idea if it would fit, but at least the electronics would probably be compatible. Also, there was a recent thread of someone wanting to put a different engine/transmission into a Prius, possibly make it into a mid-engine or rear-engined car, but he was willing to do major fabrication & customization to make it work. People were rather skeptical of that idea as well. I can't remember what his donor car was, but it had been rolled, so there wasn't much left other than the engine.

Why? Here's why:

1) Spelling (or lack thereof)
2) Grammar (or lack thereof)
3) Attitude (You want to drag race? Get a car made for it. Or better yet, don't)

It's like beating a Beagle to try to make it into a Doberman.

The races the Prius are made for are distance and fuel economy. Speed is so yesterday. Today it's hypermiling. Who can get the most miles out of one gallon of gas.

 

The only way to better straight-line performance is to put the Prius on a crash diet. Take out everything non-essential to shave off some pounds. Spare tire, seats, floor mats, trim, maybe even take yourself on a diet! Also, reducing unsprung weight like lighter wheels will help with acceleration.


I find straight lines extremely boring, so I went and did suspension and chassis bracing to increase my speed around curves. Coupled with VSC, it carves up the corners quite nicely. The Prius also has a oversteer tendency if you take the curves too quick, which I think is an added bonus

 

get larger tires. try my tire size with some super light rims. (sub 15lbs with 16's or 17's.) Add super soft tires and have fun. Add the BT Tech rear brace, strut tower brace, and front sway bar. if you want to spend more, change out the springs and shocks and add a turbo kit. want to be the first to try nos? be our guest. hopefully you can afford a new engine if you blow it. Try not to over torque any other bearings.

some worn that you'll destroy bushings. I thought that i boiled my front right shock a long time ago. It doesn't bounce as if the shock is broken... maybe it's the steering recall. I can get the car to ride flat, but not as well as new.

 

trade it in for a Camry hybrid. it will give that mustang a run for it's money. a lot better than the prius... turbo it, and brace it a little.. you'll have way too much fun. plus.. the Camry has VDIM
