$2.05 in Meridian, Ms this morning after Church. Hope this gouging does not get this far south, we have a big Exxon refinery on the coast and plenty more in Texas. We sold wife's 2012 ''v'' to a family friend, and got a Lincoln MKZ for a ''road'' car. We went to San Antonio in the MKZ last month and averaged 28.6 mpg, guess we can live with that. It has the 3.7 v6 and I use the mid-grade in it @$2.20 here. Naturally, we do all our running around in the Prius.

 

It's nice to have a luxury car for a road trip. It's worth spending a little more for gas.

 

We went from $2.19, the beginning of the week to $2.99 by the week end.

 

Just filled up my tank today and the priced $3.54per gallon at costco.

Another ramification I heard on radio today auto fatalities may exceed 40,000 this year.

 

And when the gas prices inevitably go back up....

Not to get political, but the low prices are all about political games on the global scene, not "supply vs. demand" in the traditional sense. Eventually, prices will go back up. Must be nice to throw money at a gas guzzler because now you can afford to fill it up. My vehicle purchases are more "long view" than that.

 

Yes, qdllc, for sure the gas will go back up. That is why I now drive my Z-71 pick-up a good bit now--- while gas is $2.05. And that is why we sold Elsie's 2012 ''v' instead of my HB--- it gets better mileage [ and had less miles on it ]. We will not be without a Prius, and at 27K now miles the 2014 will hold up many years.

 

I am waiting for the news to interview the woman filling up her SUV at the gas station complaining about how it is so expensive to drive her kids around and it is all someone else's fault like that dern Obama. Happens every time, I am kind of surprised they don't just re-run the same clip, with the attention span of most people I am sure they wouldn't even notice.

Went to church this morning and then to a local truck stop for lunch--$1.99 today. We went outside after eating,,, $1.98,, first time the price dropped while I was there. More road time for the Z-71 ahead it seems, loving 54-55 mpg in the Prius at $1.98-- it SHOULD go lower with crude dropping sharply.

People do pay attention to the least important things. Car prices, insurance, labor rates all more important than gasoline prices. When I look at what people pay for cable and cell phone bills, I just smh when they worry about 20 cents or a buck a gallon changes. Usually, those other things never, ever go down.

I've always viewed $65 to $80 per barrel as the optimum range to make things work. The middle east cartel is playing cold war games. We have far more options now in the US than we used to. One of the biggest environmental benefits we could have now is converting coal plants to NG. If things were planned-out according to short and long-term interests, it could be accomplished in a much more orderly way than it is now.

Where solar and wind makes sense, do it. Here in the rural areas, we had a remarkable chance to eliminate most of the oil used for heating. Activists fought it mightily, and all suffer because of it. In areas that have no such impediments, coal-fired electric plants should be given every incentive to change as quickly as possible. Most regions have their preferences.
