Man, these guys are a tease. Still, nice to see Toyota dabbling in the viral marketing.

I'd have to vote sunroof too. Typically the dash and door buttons are all darker colors, and the upper buttons like the map lights are lighter. One more reason to suspect that this button is higher up, which makes me think sunroof.

Clearly this button controls the cover for the soon to be Prius-standard Mr Fusion. Press the open button, toss in some stale beer and banana peels, press the close button, and you're good for another 1500 miles.

Hmm... on second thought, if the button is for the hatch, then there shouldn't be a Close option.

    Hmmm... folding mirrors???

How about the window blinds to keep the solar heat out?

Are you sure? I got the impression it was for opening & closing worm-holes. After all, being able to traverse space/time would use less gas.

my lexus has open/close for sunroof, as well as 2 buttons for tilt... however why are those two buttons differently shaped? Why use that for sunroof? Makes no sense... also white shiny plastic on overhead compartment?

Hm, I still cant think of anything else except sunroof... mirrors have one button for retract that is pushed in... fuel door wouldnt have close... power hatch in small car? makes no sense and it would have only close.

definetly could be some kind of hydraulic button that opens/closes compartment... thats why buttons are so weird - it is either open OR close, and when you push on open, then close pops up. Something similar can be found on Rav4 or RX, except it is sinlge button that says Open/Close (and it does sometime confuse people).

It could be open/close for sunglases compartment? That would explain the color?

I'm surprised at the type of plastic they used. It looks like something off an 80s computer.

hmm... it seems like it's something that isn't used often. It's flush with the surrounding rather than being raised. Also, a moonroof would use a raised rocker switch and usually has an arrow pointing either way. However, given that it only says "OPEN" and "CLOSE", without a pictogram, perhaps it's something familiar that people already know how to operate. Lastly, the way it's set up, it appears to be a one-touch open/close... unless the close side of the switch is easy to press and hold.

I'm not sure what else would be electrically operated....

    - moonroof
    - hatch (but there isn't an open/close rocker switch on Toyota/Lexus vehicles with this feature)
    - flip screen? An integrated MFD seems like a better idea

ok yeah I'm totally out of ideas....

That doesn't look like a switch at all, it looks like a door. It's got some fairly large gaps around the edges, and looks like it's made of one piece. My guess is that there's a pivot in the middle such than when you push on the bulged part the whole thing pivots inwards 90 degrees exposing an outlet of some sort with the part that says "close" now perpendicular to the car and parallel to the floor. Flip it down to close. But a door to what?

Based on the gloss of the paint, I'm going to say it's outside. Based on the different textures between the "door" and the surrounding area, I'm going to say the door is metal and the rest is plastic. Given all that and the fact that it slopes down and in, I'm going to hazard a guess that it's located on the underside flashing of either the front or rear bumper. Using the EXIF information contained in the jpg itself to view that at actual size, it looks *just* big enough to cover a standard 110 outlet.

    Charging port? Maybe?

I don't think it's a lift gate. For lexus and every other model, they tend to have 1 single button for power gates. hold to open, hold to close.

i think it's the sun roof... or some kind of vent... *shrug*

I'm pretty sure it's the controls to get access to the dilithium crystals.

How else are you going to feather the matter / anti-matter reaction?

Am I the only one that thinks this 'button' doesn't actuate anything? I think it's simply a small door that covers some sort of outlet...either for USB, Ipod/MP3, maybe a standard 12v car outlet, etc.

Since you'd push the protruding "open" part the 'button/cover' would rotate 90 degrees and the closed would thus be facing upward opening a fairly wide access to whatever outlet/port is beneath.

I think it's somehow connected to the plug. Perhaps it will be how you access it.
