I'd be surprised if you could ever buy a Prius without SKS. My Dealer said they'd never ever gotten anything less than a package #2 and even then that happened only once. They only get package #4's or higher.

In '05 models, we were able to get packages 1, 3, and 6.

In '06 models (as of the first Saturday in December 2005), we are able to get packages 1, 2, 3, and 6.

Not true, the default on '05 and later is to unlock all the doors no matter if you touch the driver's door handle, passenger's or hatch.

Just a note on the window overrides... Whe you lock out the window controls, it locks ALL windows, and even the Driver Door can't control any of them!

I thought that I would be able to at least control the windows even if they were locked out. The button should really be thought of as a "all power window disable" button.

Also, for locking when you leave, I've found that I can push the lock button while closing the door (but before the door is closed) and it will lock once it's closed completely. Basically, as you are swinging the door closed, use the lock button as your push point.

That being said Coastal Tech sells a mod that will lock all doors when the car reaches 15 mph. In the Gen 1 Prius, the mod would lock all doors when the driver's seat belt was attached and unlock when the belt was opened.

We have an 05 and you only unlock all the doors if you touch the passenger door or hatch. Driver's side only opens driver's door.

Not necessarily. When I got my '05 back in April the driver's unlocks the driver's door only while the passenger's (and hatch) unlocks all.

Which is really kind of dumb. On my last car the Driver Door could still control the windows. I was surprised this was the case in the Prius. I have no need to use that, but it still surprised me.

Well, that may have been the case for you. However, a number of folks have received their Prii in the "driver's door unlocking mode" (User's manual, rightmost column, p. 31). :)

If you look in the Owner's manual, you can set this option for how you want it to be. I've changed mine to unlock all doors when any unlocking door is touched.

Set it by holding "Lock" and "Panic" on the fob for 5+ seconds.

There are three modes, and the beeps will tell you what mode is chosen.

I've set this while sitting inside the car.

Not sure on the manuial page... 120? 220? something like that.

You can configure it to do either. The directions are in the owner's manual

That's not how my '05 was configured, although I later reset it to behave as you describe.

Of course if the battery in the fob is dead, you'll use it then.

I put my key in the slot nearly every time, but my wife never does. Don't quite know how to count that.

Two things I don't want to be without on any car I may own are the SKS and HID headlights.

My point was that it was not the "default" setting when we took delivery.

Yes, I think you did the poll wrong. Your question was: "Smart Key, do you use it?" (in my mind this means: do i use the smart key system by keeping the key in my pocket) So when I got to the poll I answered "Yes, always" and as it turns out, that was exactly the wrong answer since the question on the poll was exactly the opposite. Of course, it's no big deal, I just like to give people a hard time when they do something stupid. :)
