The joys of close tolerances. I've found that both my fobs were difficult, to say the least, resisting being opened to the max. I thought I was going to lose a thumb!

To solve that problem I applied WD-40 to the COVER and used it to wear away the "high spots" by continually pushing the cover on and off the fob. Do that, wet the cover with WD-40 or CRC, and lap it to a point where installing and removing the cover becomes easier.

When you get to where it becomes easy, let the cover and fob dry completely and brush all residue of lapping off before reassembling them. If it tries to stick after drying and wiping, repeat the process.

The residual coating of WD-40 will also help keep out any moisture that could become a sticking point.

Everything must be scrupulously clean before final reassembly. The battery compartment, the screws, the inner cover, the fob, the key, and the outer cover must all be wiped, blown, brushed, and whatever else you can do to get them clean and easy to mate together.

DO NOT WASH WITH SOAP AND WATER! DO NOT GET WET!

    Hello,

I have a 2008 package 6 with keyless entry. When the weather is warm I usually throw my keys in one of the cup holders. When shutting down the car and then getting out to leave the car, after closing the door, I get a beep to remind me that I left the fob in the car.

So keep this in mind that hearing the beep is not always a case of a fob battery going bad. It could be 1) you left your fob in the car, or 2) your wife/husband left their fob in the car somewhere.

    Hope this helps!
    Dave

Getting in the habit of always locking your Prius will help prevent leaving your keys in the car and leaving doors ajar. The Prius sounds one long exterior beep when you try to lock in a disallowed state.

    Hi Tom,

I always lock my car ... it's when I park it in my garage and gather all my stuff from the store and forget to bring in the keys ... is when this happens (rarely) for me :)

    Take care

    Follow up.

I replaced the battery (without injury) in my fob, and now my car doesn't beep when I turn it off. Yay.
