I use the breffo spiderpodium. Love it. Simple, clever design. Easy to install and can easily resize to fit when you upgrade your phone.

    I use VELCRO.
In the area between the HVAC Buttons and Stereo Buttons I have covered the plastic with Velcro Squares.
Starting on the Far Left is my IPOD, Just to the right of the Ignition Power Button. Next is my Nextel work phone.
In the Center-Right position is my Galaxy Phone inside a leather case that looks like a classic check-book.
The Ipod stays put all day, but the 2 phones come with me when I get out to do my work.
This method really works well for me, Put the Fuzzy side of the Velcro on the removable components.

I added my new ProClip. Expensive, but works well and no need to mess around with plugging in the cord everytime. I ordered a 6 ft black lightning cord from Monoprice for $10, which didn't fit, of which Proclip states to specifically use the lightning cord that came with the phone. Unfortunately none of the the cords that I have seemed to fit it anyways, but fear not! I was able to use some small black heat shrink tubing (1/4 in) which I stretched with a pencil so it would just fit over the top of the cord, but I needed a second layer to make a tight fit. It fit's really snug, and doesn't move and aligns perfectly with the phone - it would be a pain to try to pull it apart. I was initially going to try and route the cord under/behind the center counsel, hence the 6 ft cord, but I didn't feel like trying to pull the lightning cord out of the ProClip once I got it in. So I just pulled up the cup holder and ran it under that, the sides of the cup holder fit snuggly, the front has a small gap over the cord. I could probably make a small notch with a dremel in the future, but over all it works and works well :)

I think I've finally found the solution I've always wanted. The Sabrent Universal Smartphone CD Slot Mount for 3.5" - 5.5" Smartphones.

Tried 1-2 adjustable arm windshield mounts; one totally ruined the case I was using on my iPhone 6 Plus, putting a groove/notch in the side of the case; the other one I tried just wouldn't stick to the windshield no matter what I tried.

Vent mounts are out for me. I don't want air conditioning or heat blocked by a smartphone. I've got airborne allergies & need either the heat or AC running at almost all times, so that's out. Cupholder mounts were out, I don't wish to have to look down to see navigation apps/etc.

So the Sabrent mount works GREAT for me. I do have a bunch of CDs but I haven't listened to one in the car consistently for years now. Not worried about using the CD slot for the mount. The iPhone doesn't shake a whole lot at all, other than when the Chicago-area roads are worse than usual (they're awful to begin with in terms of potholes/patching). The iPhone doesn't move in the arms of the holder unless I force it to move. On month 3 now of using this, and it's terrific.

    VELCRO in one inch squares.
Ipod rides on Velcro squares surrounding the clock adjustment & MPH/KMPH buttons.
The spaces between the Climate Control Display & Stereo Buttons are covered in Velcro.
I stick my Nextel Work Phone & Personal Samsung Galaxy in that space.
The only thing that you cant see is the Stereo Display & Preset Buttons.
Since I'm always on AUX using the IPOD for Music & Podcasts, there is no loss of function.
Scratchy side of the Velcro goes on the dash and the fuzzy side of the Velcro goes on the components.
It works well because i'm frequently taking my work phone out when I stop somewhere, and removing everything electronic when I get home.
$5.00 worth of Velcro goes a long way.

Kenu make units that provide a secure mounting for a smartphone but are extremely minimalistic. Very highly rated in trade magazines and by users. There are two sizes, one for phablets and one for regular size phones. I have two of the regular size units and am going to buy the larger size to fit my new iPhone 6 Plus.

Here's the names of the two products on Amazon:

For Phablets: Kenu Airframe + Car Mount for Phablets

For regular size phones: Kenu Airframe - Portable Smartphone Car Mount - Black

Hope this is of some help. Mr. Luigi

How does this attach? On the ProClip website all I see is a suction cup on the back of their clips??

    Hi talkin73,

This is the page for the angled base I used- (you also need the other part for your specific phone, sold separately)

    http://www.proclipusa.com/store/products/proclip-angled-mount-854355.aspx

If you look closely, the top part of the bracket that you can see which is flat- that is what your phone holder bracket screws on. There is an angled piece below that which actually attaches it to the car. You can see part of the top portion that attaches on the top side of the cup holder, then another portion that you can't see that wraps around the bottom edge. They actually give you a small plastic tool to spread the bottom seam between the edges so you can pop the bottom portion of the clip in.

It's hard to explain, but fits very easily. I can try to get some pictures for you on Saturday if you would like them, might make it easier to understand.

    @talkin73

Sorry for the second post (can't edit my first post on my ipad)

Here is a great video on the clip which explains it perfectly.

Thanks, Boston Jim. Very helpful. Your posts helped it all click :) Found the options on their site now just need to decide if I want this on the cup holder or left dash. Middle dash seems very convenient and best visibility but not sure how to route a USB-lightning cable that isn't in the way of other things. Thanks again!

It was sad at the end when he said it was "future proof... as long as Apple keeps using their 30-pin connector..." :(

This is simply the best phone mount solution that I have ever used, my friends say the same. This little guy slides into your CD player. The best part about this is that the CD player in your car is already in an "easy to reach" location. I love this (not my car, obviously):

Here's the Kenu phone holder for large phones ($20 at Amazon). The second picture shows it holding my iPhone 6+ with a Tech21 case. It is black and blends in nicely with the grill. Surprisingly, if you mount it all the way to the right side of the left vent, as I have done, it blocks little air flow. There is a smaller size for non-phablets. It is black and grey. It also looks nice in my Prius as it has a grey interior. I use to attach my iPhone near the shifter with velcro (as another poster suggests). But, I live in a fairly high traffic region and looking down to see my phone, even for a couple seconds, struck me a dangerous. I like where the Kenu holds my phone...up high so I don't have to avert my attention on the road.

IMG_20150704_073042.jpg This is my solution. I didn't want to block the vents or stick anything to the dash. You will loose a cup holder when in use. Cost $20 at Target

Nimbus mount (magnetic) Replacement gear shift knob from Amazon $20.00. And Logitech Protection+ iPhone 5s case from Best Buy ~$20. The case has a built in mental back. Logitech also make cases for other model phones, but the Nimbus mount comes with metal plates that you can attach to back of existing phone or case too. Works well.

    iPhone ?

We have a 2010 with navigation, so we cannot use any of the CD slot solutions. This is a bummer because they work great in our other cars.

The Nimbus mount looks like an excellent idea, and I may eventually order it. However, I'm not sure I like the 'unfinished' look of the shifter stem. I also typically like the phone further up on the dash.

Before do that though, I ordered the Proclip center mount. If I can get a magnet mounted to it, I think this will be the best overall solution..however, I may need to hack it. I did consider the mounts on the Proclip site but they seem too bulky to me.

I also ordered the Protection+ case with the metal panel. Nice case! Thanks for the tip on that.
