I was not saying the Prius battery will die after 5 years. I said NiMH batteries last -more than- five years. That's in "normal use". The Prius babies the traction battery. It -should- last more than 10 years. But some will die sooner, some will die later.

    None will loose hair.

There are none (second gen) older than 5 years in North America. It's too soon to predict when they will start failing. I -suspect- it will be 10-15 years "average" life. I also suspect it will cost around $2500 to replace once they do start commonly failing. Less than an automatic transmission.

By then most of us will want a 3rd gen or a fourth gen model anyway.
