shifter, could have been, should have been.

    That would not be legal to be sold in the US. It MUST be P R N D in order, clockwise around the steering wheel. The stock pattern is, this isn't. (It would most likely be legal to drive, as that would be state law and AZ does not have a law I can find)

    I never liked groping for buttons. But the worst of it is that the button I'd use least is the biggest.

    I had the opposite thought, R is so tiny! I never use N or B by comparison to how often I use R. (I have a garage)

    That, too! All I ever use is D & R. Except P if I'm going to sit for a while and record statistics. (There should be a way to save that stuff to a thumb drive or SD card.)

    The only place where buttons would work efficiently, if they were close to "line of sight" of the driver in a vertical line left of the screen display. The start-stop button could be there, too.

    We may not represent average owners, I can drive 300 miles round trip and only gain/lose 90 feet in total. Tampa may be as flat. Owners in Colorado may use B far more than we do.

    Quite true. I'll be on a trip to the Rockies next month. I expect to use B quite a bit there just as I did last summer in the Smokies with the PiP.

    I thought the button sifter would be a bit hard to reach for Gen4 and PRIME. Then I saw this. (from Japan so the right handle)

    Regarding making drivers aware about whether the car is in D or R, I really like the annoying beeping sound 2010 makes when in R. A clear hard-to-miss feedback!

    Yeah, and give it a Continental Kit look, har, har.
    They should just figure out a good, hidden spare setup, and charge for it!! That would "nail" it for me! And by George, get rid of the useless extra seats in back, and engorge the traction battery!!

    Me, never. One rule of thumb I try to follow: if I'm parked, I turn it off. Right away. If I get distracted and forget, that's when bad things can happen.

    It's hard to miss yes, but doesn't match the physicality of a traditional automatic shifter. I can have that chime going off, and still lose track. Maybe if it said "you're in reverse, you're in reverse, you're..."?

    While I use B a lot, it certainly should be smaller than D and R.

    I personally regard N as important, for killing power to the wheels in case of another (hypothetical) runaway engine, as was allegedly happening during the Toyota SUA scare / hysteria nearly a decade ago. As a regular driver of manual transmissions, applying N is still an ingrained reflex, but getting there by a button is not. That button should be easy to get during a panicky emergency.
    Whereas I could do without it. The user configurable option to reduce it to a single beep seems a reasonable comprise, a path I chose for both my Prii.

    Both I and my wife preferred constant beep while in R. We both came to this conclusion after changing the setting to a single beep for R. The single beep was so easy to dismiss. I changed the setting back to default constant beep.

    I also prefer continuous beep, but still consider it a bandage solution, mostly necessitated by the "clever" return-to-center shifter. Sometimes effective, but not always.

    Coming from an industrial background back up beepers are required on all trucks and mobile equipment. You just get used to it.

    It's made by OGS but I have a feeling they went out of business or changed their name.

    I scored mine on Croooober.com but it was a one off sale. I been looking for some time but never would spend 400 on one I've seen from USA sellers and got that one for ¥21,900.

    Now it's almost impossible to find from what I've seen doing random searches.

    Good luck. Keep randomly checking. I just been searching Prius active position switch until I came up with that one in Japan.

    Thanks. I have been looking on that site as well. Seen some other brands. Roughly $200.00 seems to be the going rate for other brands.
