Regarding the flu my wife says they tend to watch Australia to see how the flu goes there, and use that to predict how bad it will be here. (Fair enough being the Southern Hemisphere they get their winter during our summer)... REVVL V+ 5G ?
Looks very low so far. Australia is about all they can go by, but it’s a bit like predicting hurricane seasons, hit or miss. It makes sense that you would expect a bad year, with poor immune system training, and no masks and large indoor gatherings. We’ll find out
Exactly...Most people totally 'ignore' the fact that the covid death rate continues to be something to worry about. Worse yet, many swallow the propaganda in their comfort bubble and then tell you why the death rate number is 'wrong'...
most ct'ers believe the deaths are either old people, comorbidities, or immunocompromised, if they believe the rates at all. if the government/hospitals would just publish those stats, it might be a wake up call. this business of paying hospitals extra for death certificates that read covid as the cause needs to stop.
5th Covid shot two weeks ago. Shot site soreness for about a week even though I played golf an hour after the shot. I say 'even though' because I've found that exercise reduces my shot reactions generally to nothing. This was the longest soreness of any and it never exceeded 2 of 10. P/P/P/M/PB Heard today of a baseball playing age kid of a friend who just got Covid 5 days ago. I'll get my flu shot probably Thursday or Friday. I do usually wait a little bit later but at 79+ decided to get it now for no empirical reason.
Influenza vaccinations ≠ COVID vaccinations. I only offer small information that seasonal influenza vaccinations are never offered in the large Asian country where I reside, while COVID testing, quarantines and vaccinations are 'all the rage'. Not something I can explain.
Source? That certainly isn't what the CDC shows, with more COVID deaths so far even this year than flu deaths in any year since 1918:
@Merkey Nyuck nyuck nyuck. I can say that we all mask and wash hands very assiduously now. That I have not fallen ill to any infection since COVID expanded beyond bat land. Personal hygiene in public places is a pain in the A**. But it does seem effective. N=1 example
Isn't Asia one of the hot spots where the season's strains of flu make their debut? There may not be enough lead time to get a vaccine together and distributed there, if that is the case.
I think @Trollbait correctly mentions Asia. But it is so extensive that such a term is not specific enough. It's my understanding that the Southern Hemisphere contains most hot spots for seasonal flu innovations. Winter in July, etc.
Wife is friends with local ER nurse and all local ERs slammed with covid cases. Some shutting down from being full. Our Primary says that’s all they see now very busy I could not get it for a sore throat had to go into a walk in. Made me take a test no Covid. We have all our boosters. So…..Covid or the variant still raging down here we still wear masks but no one else wearing them anywhere. Don’t think most people are aware how slammed ERs are with it. I don’t want Covid at any level you just don’t know what ticket you’ll get on that ride no thanks.
mrs b and i have had sore throat/headache/runny nose/cough the last couple days. neg covid home tests 2 days in a row, will keep testing, symptoms seem to be improving. any media down there reporting the hospital situation?
My wife's a healthcare worker so was fully vaccinated early, then caught it January of this year (unfortunately right around her birthday). Our son being on the younger side got his first shot later (as approval came later), and caught it at the end of June. They were still pretty darn sick, isolated the 10 days in their room. If you don't start feeling very ill it's probably not COVID. I felt ill a few days ago and it subsided. (I didn't test). Wonder if Walmart is taking walk-ins on the new bivalent COVID booster. I would need to go to our healthcare provider for the flu, otherwise pay out of pocket... REVVL V+ 5G ?
I hope you and your wife begin to feel better. It sounds as if you have been vaccinated so your chances of getting 'hospital sick' or having long covid are next to 0. Our family went through a bout with Covid 3 weeks ago - kid bought it home from college. Kid was sick for about 2 days and feeling completely normal after that. Wife was sick enough to stay in bed off and on for three days. I had the sore throat, sniffles and fever/chills for a couple of days. A Tylenol helped with the sore throat and believe it or not putting a piece of ice in my mouth and letting it melt and drain down the throat provided immediate relief. Even after the symptoms subsided, I still coughed up phlegm for a while. No fun but thanks to the vaccine Covid was a non-event for us after about 5 days.
I just received my quadrivalent, high dose Flu shot (the shot for seniors) at CVS this morning. Hopefully they included the correct flu strains this year. JeffD
