Seat Covers..Yes or No?

I'm thinking of getting the Burgundy Cordura seat covers front and back from GTCovers.com. (Hopefully the Cordura won't be too rough.) How hard is it to remove the rear seats, and did they include the instructions for removal of the rear seats? If not, where did you find the instructions? I don't recall seeing it in the manual but I'll look again.

P.S. What do you think "Buckskin leatherette" means? Does that usually mean a suede leatherette, or can it just mean the colour? I like suede, but I don't like smooth leather for car seats. Also, I'm not sure I like the velour materials GTCovers.com has, but it's difficult to know since I'm just looking at pix.

 

I got my set from a Toyota dealer who had swatches to take out and see what went with the interior. As for removing the rear seats, there's two clips. If you're sitting on the seats they're right between your legs (you have to get out of the car to remove them, of course). Go to this PDF file on how to install an XM radio in the Prius. Thanks. I checked out the rear seats and yep, it was pretty easy to undo the clips. I've ordered the full set of GT seat covers, in their C6 burgundy colour.

I still don't understand why it would take 2+ hours to install these seat covers though. Then again it took me an hour for the supposedly 25 min Coastaletech hitch install... I guess we shall see in a few weeks.

 

Those of you who are using the GT seat covers and the Wet Okole's, how are they when it comes to "sliding" and moving when you are getting in and out of the car. I want someing smooth that wont grab your pants when you moving around on the seat.

 

I can only speak about the GT covers, but I've had no trouble with them. They go on pretty tight.

 

Come on over to Monterey and I will let you try the Wet Okole's for your self. They are very expensive as compared to GT covers and well worth it. I wouldn't want to recommend them and have you spend a lot and not like them.

I also commute to Palo Alto 3 to 4 days per week and pass by Gilroy Wed thru Sat around 7pm and back again around 10am. I can always sped a few minutes getting a Starbucks. :wacko:

I purchased the Prius hood and leather center console cover. I like both of them. Worth the money. No doubt the center console would have gotten torn up from my forearm on it all the time. Any thoughts on the door armrests?

Well, this is a long time later being Aug 06, but the Prius hood, latest version is exceptional for reducing glare on MFD.. I'm curious about the door arm rest covers from priushood. Are they still doing well and how do they attach?

I have Wet Okole's front and back in my Prius. I think the fabric is just the right slickness. It does not catch my clothes on the way in and out, but it also keeps me from sliding around freely while driving as I do on leather. (I hate riding in my mom's car because of that slick leather feeling ) They installed with just a little grunting and tugging, and they haven't moved a centimeter since I installed then about half a year ago. I highly recommend them. One cavet, though. In very hot climates (like when its 115F) I get a little sweaty as the covers don't whick away much moisture. Dosen't even come close to making me want to take them off, though.

Do you have a dog? For some reason, the ivory interior gets stained very easily by dog drool, and it doesn't seem to clean up. My dog rides in the back of my wife's 2005, and puts his head over the top of the back seats. We finally started covering the area with a towel.

My thought is that one should enjoy the new original seat covers until their old and stained, then cover them. Why cover something new?

It makes me feel comfortable knowing that there's some protection there against spills with my seat covers. Also, another reason I'm covering them now, while they're new, is to help preserve the resale value. I just purchased exact seat covers from Ebay. 1. If the cover is dirty, it can removed to clean it. It's harder to remove the seat.
2. When you sell the car, you can remove the covers to impress the customer with nice, clean seats.
3. You don't like the feel of the OEM seats and a cover is cheaper than replacing the entire seat.
4. You can get a cover that contrasts the interior cover for estehtics.
5. Like buying a cheap UV filter for a camera lens, the cover takes the hit first.
