maybe because our extremely aged population % tends to live much longer than some other countries with poorer Medical Care?

Iceland lab's testing suggests 50% of coronavirus cases have no symptoms

...Experts have said comprehensive testing is key to controlling coronavirus, and creating a more accurate picture of the spread of Covid-19. This island-nation of 360,000 is doing just that. As of Tuesday, Iceland had tested more than 17,900 people for the virus -- nearly 5% of its population...

...Crucially, deCODE's "screening program accepts everybody who is not showing symptoms and not currently in quarantine,"...

...DeCODE, a subsidiary of US biotech company Amgen, has so far tested about 9,000 self-selected people.

...Although fewer than 1% of the tests came back positive for the virus, the company's founder Dr. Kári Stefánsson told CNN that around 50% of those who tested positive said they were asymptomatic, confirming multiple studies that show that asymptomatic, or mildly symptomatic, people have played an important role in spreading the virus...

The proper name is any of these three:
    • SARS-CoV-2 - the proper scientific name
    • Coronavirus - the lay name
    • COVID-19 - the syndrome that results from this virus
If you are too lazy to use the right term, the rest of your posting have no value.

I would not press that point, having sinned myself. I started this with city name Wuhan. Not giving it much thought, honestly. Many people did not know where that or Hubei are so it seemed informative. Also, for weeks we saw that rest of China* got much less than Hubei*, so there was reason to suppose rest of world would go similarly.

A very different course happened. there is every reason to treat this disease as a disease, not a cudgel to beat on any disfavored group. That's my opinion and if others feel differently, so they shall.

*There is only one dataset for this disease stats in China. I am in no position to judge its accuracy.

What happened to US stats on JHU CSSE site? All of a sudden there is no longer US tally on the number table or on the map.

First, Spain pushes the single day record to a new high of 923.

Then the U.S. blows past and breaks the 1000/day mark, with 1049 deaths today.

5102 total U.S. deaths now, compared to just 1 at this time last month.

    Actually these effects:
    • 30% reduction in traffic
    • substantial reduction in airline traffic (and contrails.) After the 9/11 grounding, there was at least one paper documenting cooling because of fewer contrail.
    • substantial reduction in manufacturing emissions
    • announced USA emissions is resulting in CARB vs non-CARB model differentiation
There should be a lot of Phd and peer reviewed papers about the environmental effects derived from the pandemic.
It was what we had to go on from the beginning but that is not the term being used. One of the things I mentioned in my 'report' to the moderators was how that one individual has triggered a lot of non-thread related responses. Like a typical TROLL, his success is to poison what is a tending technical thread. I can (and have) 'ignored' him but the non-technical responses his posts trigger, not so much.

I recommend that individual ask to join "Fred's House of Politics", apologize to the moderators for previous postings, and move his new racists posting there. There we can address his poor posting practices with more direct answers. Here, I just increased the 'squelch' that works for everything but the noise he deliberately triggers.

PR China is shaped like a chicken so they say. Hubei is where the heart would be.

Yunnan is where the eggs come out :D

hill quotes me, NOT to answer me, but to blame old people for NOT getting out of the way of younger people & NOT dying after their "useful years of employment" are over. But hill doesn't say anything new. Even heartless politicians have said the very same thing decades ago (a hundred years ago?) Also, hill slams Medicare for keeping old people alive. This savage poster thinks starting his post with "maybe", softens his words.

Just a TROLL trigger phrase trying and derail a technical thread. My post was just to diagnose what is causing the 'itch' that IMHO, has earned a 'scratch.' But I'm an old man and this could be considered, "You KIDS get off my lawn." <grins>.
