Both make sense biologically, but the dosages are what I would worry about. Apparently the body produces peroxide as a way to kill off pathogens. Again, dosage is important, and I am not willing to check them out myself. But if I were gasping for air and professional medical assistance was not available, the peroxide would be an available option.

Amidst of panic and fear for the true threats of the pandemic, spreading folk medicine could have lethal consequences. But again, there are much disinformation and misinformation out there on our current uncertain situations. I just hope everyone on this forum has better than average media literacy.

As they teach us here in earthquake country, emergency services may be overloaded and unavailable for everyone. Folk and DIY medicine may be all you have available when you get triaged into the expendable.

For what it's worth, I don't think the mask sanitizing procedure in #1217 suggests anything at all about a health benefit for peroxide at any dosage that wouldn't polish you right off. Its use in the sanitizing process starts with bottles of it that you can't even ship on wooden pallets, and fills a sealed chamber to effectively destroy any sort of biology present on the masks.

Cures for humans have to be of a very different form, given that humans kind of are biology.

I hope people generally understand that both humans and wild animals don't really "succumb to old age". This is not an actual disease or illness or condition. It is a euphemism.

In humans, it means they have accumulated so many problems that they are beyond where our knowledge or resources or their support network can reasonably extend their life, so the humane thing to do is let them go without more painful and almost certainly futile interventions.

In wild animals, vibrant health is essential to survival beyond any very short term. The appearance is necessary to ward off special attention from predators, so slightly ill animals must 'fake it' to appear healthy for as long as they can to avoid predatory cull. Reasonable actual health is necessary to adequately hunt or forage for food. It doesn't take much decline until they can't adequately feed, then the collapse to death proceeds very rapidly. Most, especially those subject to predation, will try to bed down in a hidden sheltered space for protection to allow survival through a short moderate illness. But for the very many conditions that are not self-healed very quickly, before malnutrition sets in, they perish in place.

Very few wild animals ever reach what we would call 'old age'. Especially so for those below the apex of a predation pyramid.

So the fact that we rarely see wild animals that are not vibrantly healthy, doesn't need any explanation involving better immune or healing systems. It is easily accounted for as a result of how our viewing of them is sampled, with an exceptionally narrow opportunity to spot the unhealthy individuals before they disappear and perish.

But if one goes to choir practice, where the singers are forcefully projecting their voices and thus emitting vastly more aerosols, expect a large majority to get it. 75% (so far) in this case:

A Mount Vernon choir went ahead with rehearsal. Now dozens have coronavirus and 2 are dead.

The unfortunate truth is that we're all guinea pigs for an unwanted experiment on infectious diseases. There will likely be more stories like this that epidemiologists will be studying for years.

For those without such equipment access, just dunk the masks in a liquid sanitizer safe for the elastic, which is either latex or neoprene. Denatured alcohol will work if you got that thinking it was safe for hand sanitizer, just rinse the masks off. The alcohols(ethyl, isopropyl, and methyl) can also be reused if kept in a sealed container.
Bleach will be hard on latex.
Quaternary ammonias, which most liquid disinfectants use, should be fine. Needs to be rinsed off, as it can irritate skin, and breathing the salts in long term won't be good.
Hydrogen peroxide I'm not sure about. the solutions used for disinfecting things like dialysis machines is over twice the concentration of OTC.

The solution is about 0.012% peroxide, and it likely will react with something in the water before it is breathed in. The water vapor might loosen up mucus stuck in the lungs.

Those with slow metabolisms have a better chance of reaching old age, or at least have longer established lifespans, as they can weather out periods of low resources for longer.

The OTC hydrogen peroxide in my medicine cabinet is 3% (or was, however long ago I bought it).

The hydrogen peroxide solution used in the Bioquell process above is 35%, or roughly twelve times the OTC concentration.

The link "this stuff" in the earlier post leads to the safety data sheet for that stuff, good reading for anyone considering being anywhere around it.

I guess the main salient point of the FDA approval for the Battelle process using the Bioquell machinery is the test report establishing "eight hours with this process and your mask will be sanitized."

I don't have that report for how long to dunk a mask in my alkyhol vat.

    Update 7 - 3/30/2020
Thank god, I think I finally have some good news. Things could still change, but NY appears to have hit its inflection point (on March 28th). I'd still like to see at least a weeks worth of declining new cases to confirm. If true, the inflection point actually came 8 days after the NY shelter-in-place order (on March 20th), but there is some evidence that New Yorkers may have been voluntarily staying home since at least March 16th (which would be 12 days).

Unfortunately, the rest of states I've been tracking have much messier data. The big jumps for CA and WA suggest to me they are still not testing enough to get a good handle on how many cases they truly have. It also gives credence to the idea that NYC/NYS look bad, not because they have the most infected, but because they've done more testing (NYS = 186,468 tests vs CA = 84,485 tests, the 2nd most).

You posted too early, before the day's results are in. Now, both daily cases and daily deaths have reached new highs.

Though at the moment, the growths are incremental, not exponential.

My usual tracking source, Worldometers, shows 20,353 new cases on Monday, vs a previous high of 19,913 Sunday. And 573 new deaths, vs a previous high of 525 on Saturday.
