Washington State's count is now 70 cases, 11 dead.

51 cases in King County, 18 in Snohomish County, and now 1 in Grant County.

With more schools closed, and King County's official recommendation (not requirement) for higher risk (*) people to stay home or avoid larger crowds, and everyone work from home where practical, with many tech companies cooperating, this morning's traffic congestion was far lighter than normal.

The County does not recommend school closing unless a case is known to be associated with a particular school. Past research has shown that preemptive school closing are highly disruptive, and tend to be ineffective because the kids then go congregate at the shopping malls and spread the contagions even faster.

(*) "higher risk" includes everyone age 60 and up, along with the usual others with health conditions.

 

I wonder if there is any fact behind something an ex-military medtech told me today, that this particular strain of Corona originated from snake meat?

 

I don't know if I'd give that any more credence than if I'd heard it from some guy on a hybrid car forum.

Ft. Bend County, part of the greater Houston area, has reported it's first confirmed covid-19 case.

Meanwhile, the Houston livestock show and Rodeo has started. For those that don't know, it's the largest indoor Rodeo in the world and brings in millions of people from all over. The Mayor announced that there will be extra hand sanitation stations. He also suggested that residents not travel but rent hotels in the area, for spring break, and treat yourself to a nice staycation.

Texas' SxSW festival has been plagued with numerous companies and sponsors pulling out ahead of it's start next week. Smart!

I will be activating my six weeks of vacation very soon. Maybe I can finally catch up on all my projects around the house.

funny story, the San Antonio Live Show and Rodeo exposed visitors to Rabies this year. Apparently a young 4-H'r showed his infected animal at the Cattle Barn. Anyone who may have petted this cow around its nose might want to see a doctor.

 

Elsewhere, I heard it was probably from bats, though transferred through pangolins. Though nothing solid yet.

The military has knowledge of biological hazards far in advance of anything the public is allowed to know. I will put more faith in a retired med-tech than some govt agency which can't even communicate a standard of care for infected patients.

 

My "bat" sources are not from said government agency, but are through some named science channels and independent news outlets, so I continue to give them higher credence than some random anonymous tech.

But it is still quite weak.
