Shitte, we thought NSW was in real trouble with the rapidly climbing case numbers

    COVID-19 in NSW - up to 8pm 29 July 2021 - COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

I don't think we have had that many cases since the pandemic hit ......

I noticed the schools are already prepping parents to accept new face diaper mandates, lockdowns, unpredictable closures... here comes 2020 again

I am teaching a graduate level, online course in Pattern Recognition this Summer. It works well for motivated students, but with younger, less well motivated students not quite so well. I have discussed teaching online and in class courses with remote teachers and the teachers do not have the training nor the proper equipment (Touch screen PCs with a stylus) to do it well. Going back to online "learning" will continue to fail our K-12 students.

I'll sell a kidney before I let the children in my life be victimized by "on-line" learning.
HOWEVER (comma!) thankfully, they went every single day during the 2020-2021 year, and they only had to re-arrange some spring break days and do a few days of work-from-home during the 2019-2020 school year while trying to figure the bug out during the early days.

I have immediate family teaching 4th/5th graders this year, and I'm pretty comfortable with the (private) school's Rona policy.

I've been tracking the waxing and waning of the Delta subtype, and there are some hopeful signs...largely ignored by THE REAL VACCINE deniers:
It's beginning to look like the "D" bug (not to be confused with "bag") is easy to spread, but not as virulent as the Mod-0 bug.
Once it runs through the unvaxed....it pretty much dies out - at least as demonstrated in the UK and Isreal.

Of course....MY numbers on the breakthrough infections are a little different than Rochelle Walensky, (as are HER AGENCY's) 1:10,000 versus 1:10...so like Bob....I know the odds. ;)

wait - isn't it seriousness / urgent care that matters? Last time checking - those stats were looking pretty good compared to a year ago. No more toilet paper hoarding.
    EDIT
Nope - I see Missouri hospitals have really picked up.

    Cases without context.
They don't want the 'every person' to think back as far as cases of toilet paper....
That's why they use key words and tricky phrases like: "soar" and "unprecedented."

As long as we're on the subject of vaccine denial,

How much more contagious is the Delta variant as compared with the Alpha, and wouldn't that mean that people should be wearing for-real N95 masks instead of the cloth kind?
I remember back when more people believed that the vaccine itself was about 95% effective, and that was considered to be.....pretty dang good.

    Curiouser and Curiouser....

    Hospital resource usage - Florida

    Hospital resource usage - Missouri

To the right of the 'today' line is projection, of course, which could be phaek gnus. Right at the 'today' line is not quite up to their highest past peaks in January, but definitely in hailing distance, for ICU beds anyway.

I would love a graph in terms of percent of the hospital resources available in the state, but these guys don't seem to have that.

I love how the propogandagraphs presume universal N95 mask usages in their hockey-sitck "projections."
It's also interesting to do a stare and compare with the Brits recent experience with da delta.

I guess 95s are all equal but some are more equal than others.....

and then I stumbled across this one...

it was 60% in hospital were vaccinated... but they changed it to 60% were not vaccinated. ok, that gives the edge to vaccinated, but it also means FORTY PERCENT were vaccinated, in hospital ?

70% here, 40% there, it's almost like there's no consistency in the numbers again.

    hmm

    thank ee thank ee

I wish they would break it down by experimental vaccine provider, so we could see which one was probably the least amount of people in the hospital.

that way we could choose the BEST for our health, and the manufactures could share recipes. it's all about beating this thing after all, right ? not profits. right ?

    oops!

Link I provided #4257 provides motivation for continued universal mask wearing.
