i don't trust the numbers, how are hospitalizations?

fda likely to approve moderna vaccine by end of week.

@bisco #3224, I posted that IA hospitalizations are down since mid-Nov or before.

Not sure how to address your trust-of-numbers concern.

Nutrients | Free Full-Text | Vitamin D Insufficiency May Account for Almost Nine of Ten COVID-19 Deaths: Time to Act. Comment on: “Vitamin D Deficiency and Outcome of COVID-19 Patients”. Nutrients 2020, 12, 2757 | HTML

"Evidence from observational studies is accumulating, suggesting that the majority of deaths due to SARS-CoV-2 infections are statistically attributable to vitamin D insufficiency and could potentially be prevented by vitamin D supplementation. Given the dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic, rational vitamin D supplementation whose safety has been proven in an extensive body of research should be promoted and initiated to limit the toll of the pandemic even before the final proof of efficacy in preventing COVID-19 deaths by randomized trials."

“Effect of calcifediol treatment and best available therapy versus best available therapy on intensive care unit admission and mortality among patients hospitalized for COVID-19: A pilot randomized clinical study” - ScienceDirect

    Highlights

    • The vitamin D endocrine system have a variety of actions on cells and tissues involved in COVID-19 progression.

    • Early calcifediol (25-hydroxyvitamin D) treatment to hospitalized COVID-19 patients significantly reduced intensive care unit admissions-Calcifediol seems to be able to reduce severity of the COVID-19.

    • Calcifediol seems to be able to reduce severity of the disease.

Topless is taboo even on beaches these days. I remember 20 years ago a lot more people wore less clothes on beaches than they do now. I also remember a lot more people walking around the neighborhood without shirts in the summertime. Today, with the rate of overweight and obesity at an all-time high, people are ashamed of their own forms and wear extra clothes to cover up. This lowers vitamin d levels and indirectly hormone levels - probably exacerbating the overweight conditions. Higher T from adequate vitamin d levels burns body fat.

    Absolutely it does.

Sunscreen is "better" today than it was even a decade ago.

The media fear mongers people into wearing sunscreen to avoid skin cancer. I think the best protection from skin cancer is daily moderate (~30 min) sun exposure. Increases vitamin d and the immune system to fight cancer and adds melanin to your skin which then protects from sunburn and cancer.

Yes. The natural way of getting vitamin D, is also associated with getting skin cancer.

How to balance between them? ...

I'm pretty sure that vitamin D deficiency plays some statistical part in COVID deaths.
However, the stats probably get skewed a bit since people in nursing homes tend to not go outside much.
Also people who are overweight and less healthy probably don't get as much outdoor time as heathier people who exercise outdoors a lot.
