Rosen Nav installed... first impressions.

Here's where you really need to go to spiff up the nav - GPS Underground :: Your Tracks Guide - iGo has many options, upgrades, 'skins' to customize it. There's also Garmin, TomTom etc that you can load onto the SD card......

It doesn't take terribly picky eyes to notice you need to cover up your license plate on the last photo

 

Very nice - and good reviews. Seems you are a Guinna pig - as was I not too long ago. I would hold *strong* to the MFG for USB issue - they will have to fix it for all - and probably not too hard to get it swapped (I had to send things to China).

For those thinking about this - the sensors *can* be had in different colors. I got mine in silver - and they matched perfectly (like a factory job). That said, I would've put them in this time around ($50ish) and didn't. Most cameras (aftermarket) now come with built in lines that give a little depth perspective. I find that more than fine - but if you want that extra - wow - go to town - it certainly doesn't hurt (and the mod - if you are handy - is not a crazy one - but maybe 2-3 hours, and a bit of heat palpitations as you drill into your bumper).

How bout the sound?

 

What dealer? What price? Your profile says you have model III which has the JBL system. Do you need the pactato or is it built in to the unit.

 

The Rosen looks as a good unit from the design perspective. Unfortunately they didn't play with color matching, but much better the simple black design of Metra and etc.
The SW inside unit is a WinCE 5.0, based of the info I was able to grab from open sources, There should not be PAC-TATO and other toys needed.
I agree with Rolf about parking radar. I purchased the radar unit, but I ddin't install it as guidance lines projected to the rear view camera output are enough for the safe reversing.

 

I was told the Prius specific flyaudio HU requires the PAC TATO (or equivalent) for JBL equipped cars.

Detailed information seems to be lacking with regards to both the factory units and many HU.

I like the look of the Rosen and flyaudio. Satellite is an expensive add on with the Rosen and is currently unavailable with the flyaudio. It looks like traffic, at least in the United States, isn't currently available with either unit.

The Rosen and flyaudio HU don't seem to offer much, if any, cost savings vs units from Pioneer and Kenwood. Unless something changes I'm going to pick a HU that has the features I want.

 

Admittedly off topic... But, WHY?

What is there to be hidden that every other driver behind him gets to see? If one's license plate number is so "Private" why don't we just take them off of the car - in order to "protect" whatever it is that you think you're "protecting" by covering up the license plate in the photo?

This is just one of my pet peeves - that people think they need to "protect" or "hide" something that is otherwise openly exposed...

Of course, if it makes you feel "happier", or "safer", or "comfortable" - go ahead - it certainly doesn't hurt anything...

 

unknown people on the internet can locate your home from your license plate. they saw your car, garage, house, maybe even your kids.

its one thing for locals, its another for anyone anywhere.

I'm not sure one way or another how easy one can ascertain home address from license plate number, but assuming so (since I admittedly don't know any better)...

and following the logic stream: It's OK (safe) for someone who's only 5 miles away (and therefore, easily capable to nefariously use such information) to ascertain your home address, but one must shield access to their home address from someone on the other side of the country / world?

I'd be more worried about the unhinged guy that I don't know behind me on the parkway getting really mad at my haircut (or goodness knows what trips his switch) - and deciding to visit me at home later that week...

Again - I don't want to start any flaming war here - I just don't understand the logic to cover up something that's open - from an 'odds' standpoint I'm more worried about the local exposure...

Not to say that there's any harm in doing that - certainly, it does add a layer of insulation between the public and what may be personal information. If it adds a feeling of security, better safe than sorry, I guess...

 

Because the OP spent time to cover up his license plate in another photo....so I knew they wanted to protect their identity. What lengths one will go to determine a person's personal information is haphazard. Personally I don't care if people find out my contact info (home address, phone number, e-mail address)....but I do guard my social security number and credit card/financial account numbers. That's probably why I have gotten a lot of spam, but at least I haven't had my identity stolen.

 

I wrote an email to Walt at adcmobile.com, but I didn't get any reply from him. Maybe they serve the US market only.

 

How do you find the FM reception? On the Toyota JBL Nav unit it is worse than terrible. Also, did you say that HD Radio is built in?
