Our local paper is a weekly that serves the entire county (population 21,000). It is named The Leelanau Enterprise, but is not so fondly called The Leelanau Surprise. There is a general belief that the paper saves money by not having writers or proof readers, but know one knows for sure.

The Surprise has a court section that lists every ticket in the county, even ones for a burned out tail light: "Bob Clark received a citation for defective equipment which was dismissed upon proof of repair." We don't have much in the way of news.

I always heard that memory was the second thing to go. The first thing to go is, a, it's, a,... what was that again?

Careful, people. With posts like this, Evan's thread could become popular, and then it would be in FHOP, and the posts would have nothing to do with the original topic . . .

Oh, I just lost my train of thought . . .

    Now, where is it?

    Google?

    Must be Amtrack :D

    But back on topic...

This used to be a problem on farms when there were still a number of non-diesel equipment. Every farm would have a tank for diesel and a second one for gas. As it became more common to steal gas, farmers got into the habit of rotating the tank contents between gas and diesel. :p

Are you positive you're the one who moved the cans? People frequently break into my hose and move my paperwork around then leave without touching anything else.

When I was in the hospital I overheard a doctor discussing memory problems with a patient. He said that if you go the the refrigirator and forget what you went there for you're okay. When you go to the refrigirator and forget what it's for you have a problem.

Don't be embarassed. I've done that more than once.

But it does make you aware. You should have a more secure place for your generator and gas cans. And chain that generator down. It's not an issue now, but at some point it will be.

I have you all beat.... Went to use my Dyson... it was not where I left it.. OK, Bad me leaving the garage door open, it is gone. Three weeks later I tell this to one of my friends... they perk up and say, "You need it back". I had loaned it out to them. :frusty: I know I left my mind some place.

Oh, That is a very nice house, and a great lawn.. wish I had that much space for the Dachshunds....

    LOL, that's great!
And thanks, we have about 5.5 acres on 3 lots...the house sits on the middle lot. About 1.5 acres of it is wooded.

I know that we can nominate threads for TOTM, but can I nominate the revised title of this thread for T(itle)OTM?

Hey, Evan, don't feel bad. We all have our 'senior moments'.
Like the day I drove to the mall for some produce, and then walked home out of habit.

    "Honey, where's the car?"

    "Ohh shhh!t. Uhhh...I'll be right back." :)

Okay, you're worried about security around your house, then you point out to us the best route to take to steal something, a mention of valuable unchained items outside your house, and give us your full address (and name and profession, basically everything but your SSN) along with photo of the property...? Apparently common sense is not a requirement of a PhD (sorry, couldn't help but kick you when you're down).

I also like the "truely determined sole" part ... now we know why those doctors' scribbles are so hard to read ... it takes a "truly determined soul" to figure them out. :D

Yea, I know...but I'm pretty sure anyone who wanted it could find my address anyway.
    I'm not a PhD, I'm an M.D.
But yea, I was just going to put the satellite image of the area sans the addy, but the ability to see the whole area sure made things nicer.

I've got an alarm on the house, I'm far enough away from pretty much everyone on this board that i doubt they'd come all the way here for my used generator...and other than the gas that's about the most valuable thing accessible outside the house. I'm an MD with an MD wife, so we are potential targets of theft always and we realize that.

I'm definately not the smartest about staying safe, but some of that is rebellion. I refuse to be afraid and prefer to trust a bit. I'll get burned once in a while, but I think Karma will come through in the end.

I take it your neighbors are all right, haven't had any come for extra prescriptions lately?

In several instances on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada, people have come into private property and taken entire (small) cabins. People from lower elevations come up to their modest cabin only to discover it is gone - the whole kit and caboodle! Bad guys stop at nothing and locks only keep honest people honest, they do not deter dishonest people.

This thread is doing a great job of cheering me up, but I can't remember what was bothering me...

Oh, one reason to get a police report is for insurance.

    Evan, Evan, Evan,
Now everyone with internet access knows where you live, and that you have several cans of gas and a nice generator just waiting to be stolen. No chain will resist those bolt cutters.
