Growing up in Newark NJ, I learned it is never a good thing to slam on the brakes as a sign of aggression, its an 80% chance the car behind, in front or next to you is stolen. Even worse, anything in the car becomes a projectile like a cup of coffee, cell phone, beer bottle, I've even seen the club fly out a window.

    Tony-

Road Rage is not funny nor is it worth getting injured (or worse). It's NOT about who's right and who's wrong or who has the bigger pair.

Several times a year I have someone pull up on my rear bumper even when I'm 5-10 mph over speed limit. I immediately signal, pull over to the right, open my window and wave them on. Problem solved.
This has happened in my new MB E class, my wife's Honda Insight, and our Prius gen 3. at our second home so it is not a function of the vehicle...just the jerk behind the wheel of the other car.

What kind of stereotypical crap is that? Republicans do this? LOL.

How many republicans here drive Prius'es? I bet you'd be surprised.

Many 911 dispatch call centers are now capable of bringing up the GPS location of your moving cell phone on a map on their computer screen. This can be quite valuable information to the responding officers, especially if you don't immediately know your exact location and direction of travel.

911 is for emergencies, and if you're truly afraid of an escalating road rage incident then by all means call. We get calls for a LOT less all the time.

For your poll, I'm a Tea Party Conservative who's concerned about our environment.
I have good friends from all sides of the political spectrum.

It was the deer hangin' from a tree in a yard that gave a clue. You can't hide 'country.'

I don't know who you think you are. You are no traffic cop and have no legal authority to uphold the rules of the road. Did it ever occur in your mind that the car behind you might be in a rush to attend an emergency situation? May be he's a doctor rushing to ER to save a life. By slamming on your brakes and speed up again, you were provoking this guy. Why didn't you just move slightly over to the right so the guy could pass you safely? You don't own the road. We must learn to share it. If this guy was a gang member with a machine gun, you'd have been resting in a wooden box by now. I am sorry to say that you are as dangerous as the other guy and I wouldn't want to be driving near any of you.

As I said, the oncoming lane was empty.
I wouldn't handle it the same again, but the guy in the truck had all kinds of room had he chosen to use it.

Toyo, I thought guns were illegal in Canada? ;)

You mean, Toronto has gang bangers with machine guns? Guess that's another city I can add to my "never visit" list.

First things - first: The guy was behaving like an A...H. Why he was doing this - nobody knows. He might have had a bad day, bad week, bad 37 years, etc.

Having said that, I'd like to switch to a slightly different topic: I do frequent forums dedicated to other car makes and nowhere, but here, at the Priuschat I read so much about road rage. No Volvo forums, no minivan forums ever mention it. This surprises me a great deal as neither Volvos, nor minivans are speed demons and both types of vehicles have certain stigma (similar to Prii) attached to them. What gives? I do not think I can blame the Prii drivers as I see at least as many left-lane-blocking minivans as Prii. Not too many Volvo wagons though as they somehow lost their appeal in the last decade and became less numerous in New England...

I chalk it up to "Prius envy". It seems other drivers know we are getting 50 mpg and yet they continue to drive a guzzler, so they "misbehave". I know I was jealous of Prius owners before I had mine - especially when gas was over $4 a gallon, but I would never be antagonistic on the road. It's just common courtesy as there are all kinds of situations out there driving.

I am not so sure. Using this logic, there must be at least as much minivan envy since not too many people can fit seven people into their cars...

I don't get it. If he doesn't own the road, what makes you think the Truck driver owns the road? There were several open lanes, why should he have to get out of the way so some lunatic can drive fast on a 35mph limit road? Doesn't that imply that the truck driver owns the road.

Since when has a doctor rushed to the ER to save a life UNLESS he is the only doctor at the hospital?!?!?
