True that they are not the same but the standard mirror is fine for showing things directly behind you and the 360 camera has a wide enough view around the car (Surprisingly wide actually) that you can see anything on the ground/below the view of the review mirror. If you don't have the 360 camera then I think it would be much more useful.

Also something that I just discovered today (That might be common I don't know??) is that for the cameras, after you reverse and use the backup camera it will show you a forward facing camera too!! So lets say you're backing up, it displays the backup camera (And 360 camera if you have it) and then once you put it back into Drive it shows a forward facing camera until you go past a certain speed. That way you can see whats directly in front of your car beneath the bonnet (think like toys on the ground or other small obstacles. Maybe not the craziest feature but I can see it being useful for some. It's nice to glance at it really quick to make sure.

And thank you! I will try putting my phone like that next time

Thank you so much! It really is exceptional. Also nice to see a fellow Canadian, hello from the west coast.
I just responded to someone else's comment regarding me acquiring the car (TLDR: waiting 3 weeks, no preorder, yes I'm very lucky lol).
I have tried my phone as well as a few others, most did not charge, some did but got very hot. I also posted about this on reddit and it seems everyone is either in team no charging or team it works but its very slow and heats my phone up. Pretty unfortunate as I was looking forward to using it, but there are so many USB c ports on the car and they charge my phone so much faster/cooler that I just use them if I need a charge, not the biggest deal.

I've seen a lot of people complain about heat issues with the wireless charging. I left mine (iPhone XR) in there for a four hour drive and it quit working near the end of the trip. Took a bit of time to cool down and work again. I'll try out putting it in askew, that has promise.

Given that wireless carplay is also [random animal excrement], I just leave it plugged into the USB in the tray up front with a 1' cable.

Wireless carplay has worked flawless for me so far (fingers crossed). I usually just plug my phone into the charger slot in the center console and leave it in there, or if my battery is close to full I just leave it in my pocket

You can also use a USB plug in the console box and route it to a phone in the slot. A slight indentation between the box and the phone slot lets you close the console box completely and enable the cable to run free. I have extra black USB-C to Lightning cables from my computer purchases. I used one of those, and it's practically invisible.

Yes! I saw that indent in the molding, very helpful

    Repeated public service announcement:

If your phone gets hot in the wireless charger, consider going into your phone's settings and disabling fast wireless charging. Your phone will still charge in the slot, it will just charge slower but won't get nearly so hot in doing so.

Ahh no worries. Should be fine. It’s the same chassis as the Gen 4, right? It’s pretty decent for a compact car.

Note that B mode in hybrid mode will actually increase fuel consumption because it won’t let the engine shut off. It’ll make no difference in EV mode of course (just increased off throttle regen but just remember to shift to D once your range is depleted).

    Good review.
You mention no problem with headroom? I've never sat in one yet but from the outside it looks tight. Looks like the top of the windshield is close to your head. From what I read, overall head room is just a bit over 1 inches less. Just wondering if people notice the lack of headroom moving from the previous generation

This will give you some perspective. : } He looks like a giant next to this yellow Prius. There are definitely some tall guys on Prius Chat who are pretty comfortable but depends how tall you are.

The windshield is deceiving. I was initially a bit freaked out by it. I’m only 5’ 3” and felt a claustrophobic because I have to put the seat all the way up. The windshield doesn’t feel so raked when driving and after a few test drives I’m getting used to it.

I'm 5'9" and have the back of the front seat pretty close to vertical. I've no issues once I'm inside the car. However, I have learned cock my head toward the rear of the vehicle when entering the front door and to bend forward when entering the rear.

No solar roof in Canada. I wait for a yellow too. I made my deposit on November 21th 2021. No news about when it will arrive.

Fantastic review! Thanks. Just got my 2023 Prius XLE. I so wanted that yellow, but couldn't get it in any of the more interesting colors or even the light interior. And I've never seen a Prius Prime in Kansas City - they only have them as special orders, so no chance to test drive or even look at one. You're probably the coolest car on the road! Congrats.

Congrats for the car and the review!

I'm not so lucky as you and my yellow EU equivalent XSE Premium will arrive on Jan 2024...
Differences with the EU Gen 5 are the Solar Roof standard on the top trim and the absence of the Wireless charging on all trims.

My question is about the AHS (Adaptive high-beams) matrix headlights: have you AHS in Canada? Have you tested it? On EU top trim are standard equipment.

Yes we do have AHS in Canada, they work well, but are pretty sensitive, they won't turn on the high beams even if there aren't cars on the road until it's fully dark which is strange. I would only use them on like back country/canyon roads, but for that they are perfect

Do you really? I don't see it in the Canadian manual. I think you're describing the Automatic High Beam (AHB), rather than the Adaptive High-Beam System (AHS), which messes with light distribution patterns.

AHS is fitted to only the PHEV in Japan, and it's in the top two of three (PHEV) trim levels in Europe.

Japanese HEVs and bottom Europe trim get AHB.

(Really confusing acronyms and names here... And they use the same button...)
