Reverse polarity jump / Fried inverter / 2008 Prius

Well, I'm just saying, if it were me, if I could make something like that on my cables, I'd be very happy.

 

It's worth some experimenting. It shouldn't need to handle nearly as much current as a jumper for a regular car.

 

I think @Mendel Leisk has a cable on his charger. That would work for a Prius.

 

They sell reverse polarity protection jumpers. Very popular. Most people who jump start a g2 are going directly to the battery instead of the very safe front jump points.
So they know nothing about the car and less about jump starting a car.

I suppose 150 amp diodes exist, but they may be humongous. Somewhat related, they say a ONE farad
capacitor would be the size of a house. There is a town called Farad, Nevada I think. Imagine how charged up that town is. So if a 150 amp diode stops conduction toward the electrical system, perhaps it will then conduct backwards thru the 12V Battery to chassis ground. Things could get HOT.

 

I was thinking, connect the ground first, then the plus. With the plus connected first, a wandering hand could inadvertently touch many ground points.

 

Always the ground first and disconnected last. Doner car should be off.

Your info has been invaluable Mike. unfortunately some people’s knowledge and acceptance of electricity is
nil. It should be mandatory from 0-12. Iv met people who are actually afraid of it. I blame the schools for that.
All car manuf. should install safety devices to insure that reverse polarity cannot occur. Thanks for your posts.
