Reverse Install Front Passenger Seat

Silly question... Will putting the seat back in as normal fix the light?

 

No. Unless it’s self-clearing code but if it was then light would also clear by just using those resistors.

 

Had some time to play around. Found out yes the code will clear if you plug all 3 seat cables back in. No need to reset the battery. Trying different combinations of wires and resistors I was still unable to trick the computer. Sadly I did order that mini VCI before trying this so we'll see what other fun I can have with it.

A couple of years ago I read of someone's "conversion" for sleeping quarters - they just laid the passenger seat flat and built a platform that fit above it for their bed. Easily removed between trips, and they went solo so it stayed in place during the trip. I can visualize doing the same on the driver's side if two will be going, both sides would need to separate into multiple pieces so they would fit in the rear seat while driving.

Just like the Prius is great as a backup generator (see my sig link), for the same reasons it is great as a mini camper too. You'll burn very little gas keeping the interior comfortable and it is quiet.

 

Got the Mini VCI in and code will not clear with the seat unplugged. Oh well still a neat tool to have.




BTW super fun to be driven around while chilling in the back seat.

 

You just need to install the resistor and then clear the code.

 

Put the resistors back in on just the yellow plug and it cleared 2 of the codes. Tried resistors in both the yellow and black plug with no change. Cleared the code,light goes off for a second then right back and this one code wants to stay.

 

That fault code is from the sensor in the seat that tells you if somebody is sitting in the seat. Unfortunately I couldn’t find speck or even type signal or sensor anywhere. But maybe you can just do “zero point calibration” without the seat in a place to get rid of that code. Or when you reverse install the seat just plug the seat occupant sensor in but leave the airbag disconnected and resistor in its wires.

 

measure the resistance of the occupant sensor (black plug) and then you will know what value resistor to install

 

Measured the grey plug and it was like 1900K ohm. Seems wrong or off. The black plug has like 10 pins in it, not sure which contact points to start with there. Did not anything in Techstream related to calibration either.

 

it is possible the occ sensor is 1.9 meg ohm until someone sits on it.

 

I've been thinking about doing this as well, a couple follow up questions.

Did you find a way to clear the third fault? Was it the passenger weight sensor? 1.9 meg ohm

Did you find you liked having the passenger seat in reverse (I'm assuming you did this to create a computer workstation, or place to stretch out and read).

Did you consider leaving the front seat out all together and using that for luggage / storage bags, and just using the second row passenger seat as a computer workstation? While the bed was folded back into the hatchback area?

I can just imagine making a mistake and all your airbags explode open. Now that would be something that would be funny in a Monty Python show!
