Replaced Turn Signals, Fog Lights, High Beams, Parking Lights & Rear License Plate Bulbs

Was wondering if the 9 led is the largest that will fit in there... has anyone tried any of the larger ones... it looks like they make even up to 30 LED SMD T10 bulbs too.

 

has anyone made a list yet of all the possible LED upgrades to do in the Prius GenIII and what areas..... seems it gets pretty confusing when you factor in all the different versions of Prius's we have out there now.

 

The footwell light housing for the Gen III looks like the pictures I've attached.

If I have some free time this weekend, I'm thinking of finding a way to light up the area below the bridge....

 

I've never done any LED upgrading, so its all new as to what bulbs are the same verses different and where they all are.......

Thats ok...... didn't mean to bother.

The LED that you want is the 5050 SMD LED There are some outrageous # of LEDs on a bulb but they're using the dimmer 1210 LEDs. the 5050 is almost 3 times as bright as 1210. For the license plate, front door, vanity mirror lights, you might want to look into side mount LED like this 2x 4 SMD 5050 Side Shine T10 LED lights 2825 W5W White: eBay Motors (item 260647388584 end time Sep-06-10 09:51:47 PDT) so that all the lights will shine in 1 direction. No lights are lost to the back.

While I'm not familiar with the others, the H11 is for the fog and "low" beam Halogen lights on Gen111 package 4 and below.
The high beam is HB3 "9005" as you have already stated.

 

Been away and jumping back into this tread. I agree that the 68 LED don't light up the road like the original fogs but what part of the road do you want lit up? The low beams light up the road where you want, whereas the fog lights are more for looks to begin with. I'm satisfied with the 68 LED for looks and I bet they last longer than the stock fogs.

 

After seeing several pictures of the LED foglights compared to halogen bulbs, I've decided to use HID for fog lights. I will however use http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...about-60-led-drl-turn-signal-in-one-bulb.html for DRL/turn signal for the front and replacing a 34 5050 LED for the reverse along with switchback for the rear turn signal. This way, I'll have 4 high power reverse lights instead of only 2.

 

WARNING!!!!!! Update:

DO NOT purchase or install the 9LED lamps into the parking light socket area. I've had mine installed for a couple weeks. Couple days ago I noticed 3 LEDs on one of the bulbs began blinking after on for 1/2 hour or so. Then noticed that both bulbs left a small melt/burn mark on the inside lense. So I now went to the 5 LED assembly - but will no doubt look into bulbs other than the LEDs for this application.
As an aside, it's tight quarters getting to the passenger side socket; easy to slice a knuckle.
Bottom line DON"T bother with the LEDs for the parking lights!!! Pics attached below-5 LEDs installed after removing the 9LEDs with residual melt marks. 9LED after deinstall and bloody knuckle...

Thanks for the heads up. ... I'm expecting my blue 9 led any day now.... looks like they stand too tall and get too close to the plastic... the 3 that blink may be overheating too.... at least the top led does.....

Two questions....

1. Don't know if you have them installed yet, but do you feel the 5LED is plenty bright?
2. Do you have another spot picked out or can suggest for the 9LED light that will fit?.... do those fit for the license plate?

I found these....

 

I used the 5LED bulbs for a while in my front parking lights and they fit nicely (with some upper clearance). They were plenty bright but then the right side bulb starting having a flickering issue. My guess is that even with the additional room, there was not sufficient ventilation. So now I switched to a wide angle bulb:

While not as bright, I haven't had any further issues with flickering. If you plan to use the parking light as a DRL, then I would not go with these bulbs... but otherwise, they work as needed.

I took a quick look at the bulb housing above the rear license plate. I currently have the same 5LED bulb in there, and there is barely any clearance with this bulb. I don't think the 9LED bulb would fit, but I haven't tried it... so I could be wrong. You could also use the 9LED for the interior map lights.

Yes, removed the air hose bolt - only way to get an adult hand to access that light socket. Still a tight squeeze.

Re the 5 LED in the parking light position - it's OK.... Certainly whiter and perhaps brighter than the standard bulbs.
But will check out info here about brighter bulbs (non LED) and I may check that out. Thanks.

Bottom line for me - I bought the 68LEDs for the fogs - not bright enough. The 9LED for parking - too large and failure. 5LED for parking OK, but probably not worth the trouble.
In the end, spent about $25 for all 6 bulbs and shipping, and my time to install/deinstall. For naught...

 

Well I ordered the 5 LED and plan to put them for parking.. but I got the blue... my car is blue ribbon and I mostly got it for effects.

One thing is for sure while I"m thinking about it... my PIAA highbeams "Halogen" on my GenIII flat out squash my HID's on my Gen II's..... I drove my wifes car last night "Gen II" and I noticed as I approached the turn for my street I live on, I can usually see all the way to the end of that block "and then some as the trees are lit".. I couldn't even see into that distance with the HID's.... thats saying something.

 

I got my 9 LED bulbs today and tried them in the license plate spots.. but those also are too long to fit.. you can't even get the bulb back into position with the LED plugged in.
Not sure if the 5 LED would work but maybe.

Humm... since I can't put the 9LED in the parking light spot or the license plate I decided to use them as my front dome lights... since they are blue it definitely add a cool effect.

I will have to use them awhile to see if they are irritating or pleasant.
