You're misremembering the 2nd generation. It had no text display on the main dash, and the multimedia screen didn't turn itself on.

I just tried this with my 5th generation, and it worked perfectly. Awesome.

My experience with the fob is a really short range of like 20 feet. Cuts the utility of it… Used to start my Cadillac from the living room. Can’t unlock it until I’m a car length away.

if you hold the key fob to your head you can increase the signal range by using your body as an antenna.

Has anyone noticed a difference with fob-starting a 23/24 Prime plugged in vs unplugged? I am looking at the car, and I can see the lights flashing multiple times after holding on the third press, which seems to be the sign that you've done it right. Unplugged, it starts. Plugged in, it doesn't.

Toyota PHEV's don't allow remote start while plugged in. To pre-warm/cool a plugged in PHEV, you need to use the Toyota app(and have an active Remote Connect subscription).

I have a case open with Toyota about the remote starting debacle on my 5th gen prime. I was told by the dealer that in order to remote starting the car I NEEDED the subscription which is false. I was able to remote start the car using the fob multiple times but it was hit or miss (more miss then anything) . I was on the phone for a painful hour explaining to Toyota on how you are able to remote start the car using the fob and finally it was acknowledged that my 23 Prime screen needs a firmware upgrade due to Fob to screen (apparently the screen in the car is the main brain of the vehicle) communication issues. I am bringing it on Wednesday to the dealer (ugh) under a warranty claim and will update everyone on what was found.

I don't have any subscriptions and my remote start works. The fob is just very flakey with poor range. If I walk up and watch the lights blink it starts every time.

So just an update on this the dealer told me even after the firmware upgrade that I still needed the subscription and Toyota is cracking down on people without a subscription slowly deactivating the key fob feature forcing you into the subscription. Needless to say my remote start is way too flaky works sometimes with the subscription only. Any other PP owners on here that can help out? I saw a few messages that my car needed to be at least 30 % charged in order to remote start……seems awfully silly to me

Mine starts with 3 key presses on the button.
Maybe a change for 2024, I do not know.

Do you have the subscription to the Toyota app or just key fob? Is your PP always charged when you remote start?
