It works on our 23 HyCam. and it no longer is subscribed to the remote.connect app.

This is great news! When I was inquiring about this a few months ago people were saying the fob sequence didn’t work anymore.

I know it's a bit of paranoia but in parking lots I don't use the buttons on the key fob in case there are people with remote cloners local. Will always lock with the handle texture or hatch button

I just tried this on my 23 LTD and got it to work. Instead of: Press Lock(x2) + Hold lock 3sec, try Press Lock(x3) + Hold Lock 3sec. After pressing the lock button 3 times and then holding I was able to get my vehicle to start.

I am not sure if this has already been said but it my understanding that starting the car with the key fob will stop working when the 1 year Remote Connect trial is up. I have not found that written anywhere.

    Remote Connect
Remotely interact with your vehicle through the Toyota app via your smartwatch, Amazon Alexa-enabled devices and Google Assistant enabled devices. *Depending on grade, you can lock/unlock doors, start and stop the vehicle, locate your last parked location, check vehicle status and monitor guest drivers. Subscription required after trial. * 4G network dependent.
1 year free trial... $15 a month after that

My fob lives in my handbag and never leaves its pocket in there. I LOVE the fob and never take it out.

Realize that the key fob is constantly sending out signals- there is a thread and youtube video out there on how to temporarily inactivate the fob from transmitting and therefore not allowing a cloner to access your signal. If you want the youtube video on how to do this, please let me know; I'll post it here again.

    One was just posted today:

Hold down the lock button and tap the unlock twice. The red LED should double flash twice. To turn the key fob on again, hit any button.

I haven't looked up the range of the nfc that the remote emits vs the range of the radio but I understand pushing the buttons emits a stronger signal which is easier for cloners to duplicate.

Pushing the button might also mean sending out the actual access codes vs the "here I am" ones. With the SKS, that doesn't happen until you are next to the car.

I have tested keeping my keyfob in a metal can when at home, I've taken the can right up to the car with out the car detecting it and the range of the NFC seems to be about 1 metre from the door handle. Unfortunately I can't test pushing the button in the can as soon as I open the can the car can detect the NFC if it's in range.

I think you are correct. I guess we’ll find out for sure when the year is up.

Our 2023 HyCam starts with the fob (not too sure how far away from the car, though) and our subscription has run out. Can't use the cell phone app, but the fob still works.

Thanks for sharing this. I’m hoping I don’t have to pay for subscriptions.

Steve Clifford has a video out that tries to do a complete explanation of how Remote Start with a key fob works. I couldn't find any explanations in the manual for this. The ability to do this has some surprising requirements. Note that this is a replacement for a video from 2 days earlier. Hopefully, he got it right this time:

I’m disappointed that our ‘23 tells a thief how to start the car. I always considered pressing the brake a secret theft deterrent..

It is in the timing. click click click (hold the last one until the car lights flash. The hybrid motor fires up and about 5 seconds later the gas engine clicks in (also 2023 LTD). It took a bit to get it timed right.

The engine on my Prius (23) stays on when I open the door (after starting with the fob). The HyCam does not, the engine shuts down when you open the door. It was built early in the cycle (we got it in late '22) and the Prius was built in October this year, and was the last '23 delivered to my dealership, so it may have changed mid cycle or it may have always been that way.

I owned a 2nd and 4th generation Prius. When you closed the door, they both had a 'Push Brake and press the Power Button to Start' notification appear on the main panel.
