    I was a bit terse: basically they have to pull the brakes to get at the bearings, and with the battery connected you run the risk of a brake piston being pushed out, if the pump activates. Opening the driver's door it's a near certainty that'll happen. And also, after reassembly, it's good to pressure up the brake pedal before reconnecting the battery, so the car doesn't (possibly) detect excessive pedal travel, throw a code.
