Just wanted to chime in on reliability. I accidentally curbed my 08 prius. the alignment did not get jacked up. That speaks much to me about its build quality. I have had Pontiacs in the past which would lose alignment if you just dare looked at it funny.
We have updated results for the Prius to include owner experiences through June 2009. In terms of successful repair trips per 100 cars per year: 2009: no repairs reported yet, sample size one car (!) below the minimum for a full result 2008: 11 2007: 19 2006: 26 2005: 14 2004: 32 All are much better than average. In the case of the Prius, the percentage with no repairs is about 78 for the 2005, 68 for the 2006 (last year of the warranty), 84 for the 2007, and 93 for the 2008. The percentage of lemons is less than one for all years. A big thank you to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in February and May. Make that 742, including 128 for the 2010 alone. Among the Gen IIs, especially need more 2004s--many previous participants have now traded theirs, often for a 2010. I have an old Mercury Topaz which also is like those Pontiacs, it won't hold an allignment worth beans, but I have to give it to Ford for making a technically solid vehicle, even if it eats tires for breakfast. But, boy, the Prius beats them all. What a car.
