We have updated results for the Prius to include owner experiences through June 30, 2011.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2011: no repairs reported yet, 22 cars - especially need more of these

2010: 10

Both are better than average.

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

In the case of the Prius, these two stats are:

2010: 91, 1

I've been working on doing this, and it's clear why it hasn't been done before--while a simple idea it's very hard to execute in a way that will provide valid, useful information.

First, you need to know precisely what was repaired and/or how completely the part failed.

Second, how much more should a transmission problem count? Twice as much? Ten times as much?

Also realize that for cars under warranty transmission failures and tows are both very rare. And if you want to accurately measure something that is rare, you'd best have a very large sample size. Which no one does for all car models.
