We've released an updated reliability stat for the redesigned 2010 Prius that includes owner experiences through March 31, 2010.

We had 127 responses, outstanding for such a new model. The reported repair rate of 13 repair trips per 100 cars per year remains similar to those for the 2007-2009, and excellent for a redesigned model early in its first model year.

We now have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

In the case of the 2010 Prius, the percentage with no repairs is about 80. The percentage of lemons is less than one.

A big thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. The more owners participate, the better the information we can provide.

Starting this month we have a new question to measure, as objectively as possible, the severity of a problem. Many people have been asking for reliability stats that weight problems by how severe they are, and once we have enough responses with the revised survey we'll start providing this.

Also, updated reliability stats this month.

When you look at all these numbers it makes you wonder why anyone would waste money on an extended warranty. The numbers show that the Prius does not break.

I am at close to 60,000 miles on my 2010 Prius IV with zero repairs.

The only trips I have made to the dealer, not counting routine oil change, is caused by the dang tire pressure sensors. I have a 2010 Prius and a 2011 CRV .... both cars constantly display the tire pressure warning light. The dealer inspects, cannot find anything wrong. I see no value in the sensors.

We have updated results for the Prius to include owner experiences through June 30, 2011.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2011: no repairs reported yet, 22 cars - especially need more of these

    2010: 10, better than average

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

In the case of the Prius, these two stats are:

    2010: 91, 1

    Toyota Prius Lemon-odds and Nada-odds

We'll have further updates in November and February.
