Red Triangle Warning Light and NO OIL after 5000 mi service!

    There's really no correlation b/w the color of the oil and the need to change it.

    no correlation at all??

    hmmm, i guess if the dirt is clear then there wouldnt be. but dirt from spent hydrocarbon fuel is black so i say there is a correlation as far as how much dirt is the oil.

    now, the fact that the oil is black in ICE based cars may mean that that is the auto makers way of making sure we buy new after 100,000 miles.

    after all is there some chemical reaction that turns the oil black? nope i think not. its simply dirt mixed into the oil that changes the color.

    now the question is, is all dirt black? that i dont know. but i be willing to bet that most of it is.

    Of course there is a correlation, but I side with Evan. Essentially we cannot make a valid decision as to the oil change interval by looking at the oil color. Different brands chamge colors at different rates, but will still protect the engine even if its black.I hae purchased brand new engine oil that was so dark to begin with that it essentially turned black within a few hundred miles.
