    It undoubtedly depends on a number of factors, such as;
    - How many more years (and miles) will the car actually be used? We are estimating on another 2 years for our 2005 Prius, if it makes it that long without a major repair required.
    - Knowledge of the reconditioner. There are a number of shade tree "We fix hybrid batteries!" yokels on Craigslist who offer no real warranty, work out of their garage (after you finally are able to track down where they are), and give no process details or cell data whatsoever on the 'reconditioned' battery array. As an electro-mechanical engineer, I'm satisfied with what I've heard in discussions with Tim.
    - Inventory management. A sizeable operation will be taking in a number of batteries per week, much more able to assess and match workable cells to well-matched packs. The shade tree operator is going to rummage around through whatever they have laying around.
    - Staff. Tim's local installer was fast, efficient, exacting. He took about an hour for the entire replace and every single nut or fastener was carefully removed and replaced.

So yes, if such an operation were not run intelligently, they likely would not end up making money, though one could say that for just about any business endeavor.

I am glad you are happy with that. I had a server replaced under support contract and the replacement failed in 2 months. They are now sending me a new replacement, acknowledging I should not need to replace it every two months.

Personally, I would expect a replacement battery to last longer than 2 months. Since you bought your battery before November 1, 2017 it only has an 18 month full warranty that is then pro-rated out to 5 years, according to Green Bean's website.

"Unfounded grousing". That's such a nice way of putting it. I had to look it up. Thanks, I now have a new word for my vocabulary.
    grouse
    Verb
    gerund or present participle: grousing
    1. complain pettily; grumble.
"she heard him grousing about his assistant"
synonyms: grumble, complain, protest, whine, bleat, carp, cavil, make a fuss.

Just be careful because the noun has nothing to do with the verb. It's a little game bird.

I have been looking on here and you seem to know some stuff. So yesterday my husband was driving our 2007 Prius home, the warning triangle and slash through the body of car came on and car died. It restarted and he got home with it. The tow company asked us to move it to the street, I went out and started it and moved it, warnings still on. Then needed to move it a little farther forward and when I restarted it it sort of jumped and all of the warnings went out. Do you know if anyone else has had this happen or what it means?

The lights mean there are trouble codes to direct you where the car sees a problem.

OK, so what do I do? How do I get codes? I won't even look under the hood. Older cars I get this is way past what I want to deal with.

The dealer has software that can read the codes. Some dealers charge $100 just to read the codes. If you post the codes here, we cah advise you further.

I just noticed that all the warning lights went out. Perhaps @Raytheeagle or @bisco have some ideas.

Will they see these posts? This is the first time I have been on here or any forum for that matter. Just thought someone may have experienced these things before.

I tagged them so they would get notified. Notice I put a "@" in front of their usernames.

Either you will need to buy tools to read the codes yourself (less than $75 plus some time configuring the software)

Or you will have to get the codes read by a mechanic or auto parts store that has tools that can read the specialized Hybrid Codes.

Some auto stores may read codes for free, but often they don't have quite the right tool for the job.

I'd the car problem is not fixed the lights will likely come back. There are some basic things that may be helpful to narrow down the problems. For instance, having your 12v battery tested to make sure it is in good health. (replacement can be $250 or more.)

If this problem drags on it may make sense to start a separate thread outlining the problem so we can discuss it more in depth.

That way this thread stays on topic of discussing the 5 year warranty battery.

Don't worry about it for now.

As far as diagnosing your car.
Basically we are guessing from a distance until somehow you can get the diagnostic error codes read.

    pat,

to start a new thread, go to the main forum page and scroll down to gen 2 maintenance and troubleshooting.
click on that forum, and to the upper right of the threads, you will see 'post new thread'. click on it, create a header (sort description of the problem) and click 'create'. you will start getting responses, and can find the thread anytime by clicking on your avatar twice.

To update my status - We did keep the Prius and had @TMR-JWAP install a 2011 battery in it this past Sunday. The price was right and after checking out many of his posts on the forum here and speaking with a few of the folks who he's helped out I was convinced. It was fun watching him install the new battery - I've done a bit of work on the prius already (original owner) and was honestly a bit surprised by how easy the battery was to replace. I think the 'attempting to fix this can kill you' stuff that I'd seen on the web had me scared. No such warnings when I replaced the control valve or touch screen :p.

Anyway - I am really happy that there are so many options out there for folks who are having issues with their hybrid batteries and I am happy with the decision I made to keep the car and replace the battery. Hopefully it will last a long while!
