The JOV solfware upgraded keep ICE stay longer untill your coolant temp reach 160-180C. That's s@ck if you in extreme cold area. You ICE keep running and low MPG.
I haven't gotten anything in the mail but I called and my 2015 Prius is part of the recall. I can bring it in anytime and she said it will take 5 hours. They said they will bring me anywhere within 10 miles if I want to wait at home. Reading through the thread I see that people that wait get their car quicker so that's what I will probably do. Has everyone gotten their car washed for free? Just part of the recall service? They vacuum the inside too? I will make sure to empty the trunk. Anything else I should know or look out for? I won't fall for anything they say is wrong with it and if they insist, I will take the car to my mechanic.
Mine was washed. I'm not liking the results of the recall. Its a strain to get over 42mpg now. Use to be a breeze to average 47 to 49. Engine tends to turn on more often, even when its completely hot and normal. It sucks.
I just got 64.4 MPG driving home about 41 miles. I don't want to lose MPG. Can I just not take my car in for a recall? Why would Toyota make the major perk of owning this car worse?
This recall is rated as a safety-related issue. It is to fix a problem where the car may just die totally, which I assume you would not want to happen when you are in the fast lane of a SoCal freeway. I'll sacrifice a few mpg (if indeed that happens) to save my life.
It is extremely difficult to draw conclusions about whether a recall you've just had done is responsible for some effect you think you're seeing in recent MPG or performance since having some work done, compared to what you feel you remember over a long term before. People whose work involves design and analysis of experiments understand why that's hard, and many others don't. There are a lot of posts on PriusChat where people are sure that recall Z did X to their MPG or Y to their acceleration (or will state as fact, without a single source, that the software fix they have never read requires the engine to warm up longer), etc. Sometimes you'll see people report a change calculated out to three significant figures (under the circumstances, the kind of thing that would earn a snort from my eighth-grade chemistry teacher). But that "lot" of posts here is really pretty small compared to the tens of thousands of cars recalled, whose owners don't feel motivated to sign in to PriusChat and complain about anything. So far, out of all the "lot" of such reports on PriusChat, we have exactly one, from GG707, claiming to have found a parameter change that would be in principle verifiable by anybody else getting the same work done, but nobody else has been interested enough to try to verify it, as an alternative to recycling stale innuendo. We had one person after that express an interest in helping to collect verifiable information, and then not do it. We have the Defect Information Report for the latest recall, so we know that it involves altering the way the transistors are driven in order to manage the peak temperatures reached, which makes it similar to the earlier E0E (liftback) and F0R (v) recalls, and it also involves an possibility that an ill-timed transistor failure could trip a shutdown threshold, rather than going to limp mode, which is what you would rather have happen (and that was what the J0V recall was about, but the cars in the present recall weren't expected to have the same issues). There are likely a lot more ways of tweaking firmware to PWM control some transistors, for management of their peak temperature, than are dreamt of by many people who are "sure" that they have figured out the "only" possible way Toyota could possibly be doing it. If it were my car, I would have the recall done. Mine isn't in this batch, 'cause it was in the other batch. It drives like a Prius.
That drastic of a difference in mpg? I'd have to believe it was something different. To get 42mpg, I have to drive fairly aggressive. In warm weather, the lowest I've got was 38mpg driving aggressively. In my 2015 gen 3 after the recall, in sunny California right now, all I notice is my ICE on for a few seconds longer periodically. Mpg might be affected on super short trips but I have no noticeable difference in mpg.
Cause what? This is a thread about an inverter firmware recall. If it's your 12 volt battery that's causing us all to get these recalls, then yes, would you please change it?
Thanks for providing the defect information report which was highly interesting to study, and to note that it took only eight failures to cause Toyota to recall 267K vehicles. I received the recall notice last Monday and had the recall performed last Wednesday. There has been no obvious change to performance or fuel economy, this morning I drove 17 miles roundtrip and the indicated fuel economy was 50 mpg, which is normal for me.
I made one of my normal drives and got 43.3 mpg. I am pretty sure I have gotten an average of 52 on this drive but I faced no traffic and did drive a little faster than usual so that may have affected things. I will do the drive back in about 28 days as I am currently working here and report back. Here are some of the things the dealership reported wrong with my car: Dirty interior cabin air filer, wiper blades need to be replaced, spark plug replacement check, dirty transmission fluid level, fuel injection service recommended. All this was estimated at $900. How do these dealers sleep at night? I obviously am not going to get any of these things taken care of at the dealer and still not sure if even need to take this paperwork to my mechanic to see if any of this is serious.
