This is really stupid. No it doesn't improve your range. Essentially you are saying that by cracking open your older car's instrument cluster and manually shoving the fuel needle higher, you now have more fuel and can drive further.

The estimated range is a constantly evolving number that takes no environmental variables into affect. It knows how far it went on EV, the approximate state of charge of the pack, and then extrapolates using your current driving style where will it be depleted to the point that HV mode is forced. That's it. Then this number is constantly averaged by every trip.

If you take a brand new PiP off the delivery truck, then drove 5mph on a flat surface in the middle of the summer with 60PSI in your tires and a tail wind and achieved 30 miles of EV the estimated range would artificially high. Now park that car until the winter time, flatbed it to the bottom of a mountain, lower the tires to where the rims are barely above the pavement, and set off. The car will still happily tell you that you have 30miles of EV left. Good luck getting 5 miles. So then the average will read artificially low.

By resetting the estimated range, all you are doing is taking a more accurate number that is constantly being honed in factoring in your driving conditions and style over time and throwing it all away. You gain nothing, and you lose the ability to more accurately calculate where that depletion range is.

Saying you have to try it to believe it is like saying you have to try getting hit in the head with a frying pan to believe it hurts.

I say the burden of proof is on the one making the claim. I think disconnecting the battery does nothing to actually increase the range. You haven't even really claimed that it does, just that it makes the imaginary range estimate higher. Yet you want us to believe that the range increased?
