rear end falling off. Happened to anyone?

Bumping up this old thread. Anyone ever find a fix or have the part number for the clip? Is this an easy DIY? Looks like my 2010 WGM Prius IV is doing the same thing on the passenger side of the back bumper.

 

Quick update: I asked the dealer about this today when I was in for an oil change. Mine seems to be gapping slightly on both the rear passenger and front diver sides. One guy's first question was whether I have been in an accident. I haven't that I recall (at least not that would have caused this damage). Another guy said "I see this all the time on Prii." So, I do not know. They said they checked the clips while it was being serviced and nothing was missing or broken, nor did they think it would get any worse, so I guess I have to live with it. I like to keep my cars in very good condition, so stuff like this is kind of annoying, but I'm trying to get over it.

 

Took some snaps of ours lately. Bumpers ain't what they used to be.

 

Saggy butt syndrome, definitely could use a butt lift.

Yep, that looks familiar. Mine is a little worse than Mendel's on the right side, OK on the left. I should've complained immediately after purchase.

 

Take it to a Toyota-authorized body shop (not the dealer) and ask them for their opinion. Had a slight rear bumper-dent that went to a Toyota-authorized body shop for repair. Soon after the repair, the saggy butt began to show itself on both sides. Took it back to the body shop and they somehow fixed it permanently. Unfortunately, I don't have any details on what they did to fix the sagging, but it has held up for years now.

I think the body shop folks will know how to fix this since they deal with body panel fasteners all day long.

The issue seems to be a production or design flaw on those units without any impact damage.

If anyone takes their Prius to a body shop for a fix, let the rest of us know what they did. I'd take mine in, but I don't have a ton of extra cash for exploratory body shop procedures with my move coming up. Mine looks pretty similar to Mendel Leisk's on the right, fine on the left. It's nice to know we're not alone, but it's still pretty annoying.

Use a small amount of gorilla glue, squirting it in the back part. Then place some wood underneath to hold it in place. After 1 hour it should be ok. Using a small amount helps it stay, but not permanently welded. Should the bumper ever need to be completely removed, a gentle pry with ones hand from underneath should pop it loose. Just a suggestion. Not for everybody of course. I wouldn't use any other glue because gorilla glue tends to "flex" and move better than others.

Looks similar to that and has a few clips along the top that hold the bumper. Cost is about 30$ for the part.
