Wonderful job, folks! Great to see all these dashboard screen shots! It's so much fun to see 70mpg, 88.4mpg, 112mpg. But for what? Driving downhill at 17 miles per hour. May I remind all of us: the title of the OP post is REAL WORLD MPG NUMBERS!! To me this means what I get on my daily commutes through the urban jungle, and other assorted errands. Here in Oakland if you drive on the freeway slower than 75 or on side streets at 17 mph most crazy bat nice person drivers here will first tailgate to within inches of your bumper, then honk, and cut you. Let's get real, people.
Real world, I am getting 44-48 mpg averages. Most of these are commutes in the oakland hills (highways 13 and 24) with elevation gains and drops of 1800 feet several times over 14 miles. That is amazing efficiency! On flats and road trips I've been averaging 54 mpg (display not calculated)
Agreed its only dashboard figures, but that journey was on my daily morning work commute which is urban roads with 30-40 MPH speed limits and associated commuting traffic flow which brings down the average speed and not just down hill. The same journey home my display generally shows 62-64 MPG. This is the conditions I commute in daily, I am so glad I don't have to put up with the Californian traffic as its bad enough driving in it whilst on holiday/vacation
Agreed. I drove from Cornwall into Devon and back today. Some lanes with speed below 49 mph but mostly dual carriageway A38 ~ 65mph. Car indicated 81mpg when I got to my destination, but reverse for home only made 66mpg. Now all these roads are undulating by 500 ft or more, (there's very little flat ground down here in the far south west).
To be fair, these dashboard screenshots are real-world numbers, and each of us will drive in different environments. We live in different places, and have different driving styles, which is what makes the diversity of responses most interesting. For example, because of my circumstances I am now having to drive early in the morning when traffic is light and I can accelerate very gently, but I do drive at the speed limit. With regard to my screenshot, I was driving mostly at 30mph, but unfortunately, there were things such as traffic lights and roundabouts I had to slow down for, hence the average speed read out at 18mph. I was keeping up with traffic once up to speed. Now in MY world, MY typical commute in London of 10 miles will involve the second half of that journey driving over lots of speed bumps where the speed limit is 20mph, which is where I'm getting 80+ mpg now the weather has warmed up here.
I think you're absolutely correct raspy. Each and every trip is different in some way from every other and they're all in the real world. Can't wait for it to warm up here. It's hissing down with rain and barely into double digits °C.
Real world for me and my 2017 Eco is 56 on computer over my first 1350 miles. Not bad! Doing what it was advertised. My 2010 averaged 50-52 mpg on computer and later on dropped to 46 in the western desert regions.
It shows what the car can do, provides incentive to try harder, and gives you a point of reference if you think something might be wrong with your car. This shot is from earlier this week, returning from a trip to the suburbs on non highway, edge of city stretches of roads I know well. Love to challenge myself and see what I can do.

I'm getting 53.6 (screen display) with my Prius 3 Touring. Calculator tells me it's really more like 50 (real world). That's over the 13000 mile lifetime at this point. I know I'm missing out on some mileage, but I perform maneuvers with a lot more confidence, particularly on questionable pavement, than I did when I owned a 2005 Prius for 11 years. There is clearly some added value in handling with these 17" babies.
My Gen 4 continues to surprise me. Today i drove 15 miles on small roads at 30-40mph and 35 miles on the motorway in pwr mode doing 80-85mph and from this trip, overall economy at almost 70mpg UK (58mpg US) - AC and heated seat on too. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
My journey to work yesterday, safe to say I am pretty pleased with that Usually between 70-80MPG, but had a good run this time.

Yes, that is insane I have one stretch of road going to work that has a very gradual down gradient and I think that is where my big increase is as a lot of it is very light or no throttle. Its definately not as good coming back due to the slight incline on the same strech of the road, but I am more than happy. Generally as I say going to work its between 70-80 but coming back its 60-70. I must check and see what my EV ratio is on the way home to compare.
My personal best. Mostly sweeping country lanes with some small hills where I could coast along once up to speed. AC was on and I used a mix of PWR & ECO modes. Works out as 119.8 MPG in the US. Freeway Driving on the I405 in Los Angeles! Check out my best in route mileage ever at the 12.9 mile mark - 97.1MPG! Second image is at home in the garage. Total distance 20.5 miles with Avg. 82.3 MPG. A full battery and heavy traffic will do wonders for your MPG. The trip included a drive up the Sepulveda Pass and couple of miles of full speed (i.e. 65 MPH) driving.
