    2019 Std Rng Plus Model 3 with a 240 mi initial range. At 100% SOC, it projected to 232 mi, close to the expected first year degradation, ~5%. But my last trip from home to Memphis:
    • 206.5 miles, 215 Wh/mi
    • 13 miles, reserve
    • 219.5 miles based on car metrics
    On the return trip from Gold Strike casino Tunica AL to Athens AL:
    • 218.0 miles, 200 Wh/mi
    • 11 miles, reserve
    • 229.0 miles based on car metrics
    The 2020 version is rated at 250 mi initial EV range.

    Another very large factor to consider...resale. I'd bet anyone that wants to that Tesla will be the winner there. And I obviously mean on a percentage basis.

    Simple decision. Do you want a long distance road beast or do you need a most-of-the-time, local luxury car? If you have another gas powered car, get an EV for almost all of your daily driving.

    Most of the US needs a long distance road beast for maybe a handful of times out of the year.

    ... and yet - what is the #1 trade in for model 3?;
    Here are the top 5 cars Tesla Model 3 buyers are trading in - Electrek
    It would seem that most aren't bothered by the stiffer ride. A stiffer ride would put myself in the minority as well. Even back in my Porsche Cab days, I didn't enjoy feeling every bump in the road.
    if an order stop was put in so early for Japan, wouldn't that possibly indicate Rav4Prime might be a non-starter altogether in the USA - for quite some time, ah la Mitsubishi plug-in Outlander??

    That's a good question, will the Rav4 Prime make us want more EV range? If your daily commute is longer than 40 miles, I would think yes.

    Tesla reliability and build quality is also suspect. Last thing I want to do is get a Model 3 and have to send it back to the shop for repairs. Toyota wins out here IMHO.

    My daily commute is currently about 22 feet. Normally, it's 22 miles round trip and we have charging at work so no issue with the Prius Prime.

    My WWII vet dad - 34 miles away is finally winding down on hospice, so we're making a whole lot of trips over there every week. Often the time length of the stay of these trips are too short to get much range while charging at my parents home, charging at a pathetic (& common w/many PHEV's) 3.6kW. So sometimes - even the rate of how slow or quick your plugin charges might make part of the equation for varying individuals - when buying whatever they get.

    It was reported Toyota only slated 300 Rav4p's a month for Japan. Demand greatly outstripped that.
    Battery shortage is the main reason being reported in the news for not increasing production, but there is another reason. Plug in incentives for next year in Japan haven't been set yet. Toyota could be holding production for markets with known incentives.

    Then we don't now the specifics for their battery supply. It could be for x now, but the agreement already has an increase for x + y for later when they start making cars for export.

    I think too much is being put into this stop to order taking in Japan. The Rav4p is slated as a 2021MY for the US; we are just half way through 2020. Production of new models always start out slow to train the production teams. So early numbers will be limited, and like nearly all plug ins, they will go to the states with ZEV programs first. Arrival to the US was planned to thelast quarter of the year before everything shut down.

    Mitsubishi is a bit player in the US market. They made more money by not bringing over the Outlander for so long. There also wasn't any competition at the time in the US. Toyota delaying means more time for the Escape PHEV to garner sales. Plus, the Wrangler PHEV is coming to the US, and FCA has a Renegade and Compass PHEVs that might be brought over. Then I don't think Toyota wants to squander the last of their federal tax credits on Prius Primes.

    If the Rav4p is delayed for a great extent of time, it will because of Toyota's needs in China. If batteries are needed to meet whatever the system there is, that is where they will go.

    I’ve heard from a couple of dealerships that they are getting only one or two RAV4 Primes for the year. Apparently Toyota is only sending these fully loaded with top of the line options. (Meaning $1.7k more for SE and a whopping $5.7 more for XSE)

    XSE will be a $49k car and SE will be a $41k car, before any rebates. I live in a state (VA) with no state incentives, not sure it’s worth spending that kind of money on a RAV4 (Assuming I’d be able to buy one this year)

    Fully loaded cars being shipped out first is the norm.
    With the low numbers of Rav4p's being shipped at first, it will be some time before less equipped models show up on dealer lots.

    Found a dealer that has SE allocated without any additional options package. Wondering if I should go for it or wait for an XSE.

    It’s not going to be our family car due to size. So it will be my commuter car. I don’t really need moonroof or 19” wheels or the fog lamps. Wify wants it to have leather seats. Debating what to do.

    Any suggestions?

    Softex sucks so talk her out of that.

    My issue is that I do want the HUD and 6.6kW charger, but not the moonroof or Softex.

    I like my Softex way more than real leather. And I hate real leather.

    From the same link: It’s important to note that Tesla specified that it’s the top 5 “non-Tesla” trade-in cars, which would indicate that a Tesla vehicle would actually be in the top 5 otherwise.

    Important distinction and omission. Also, that data is old now. I frequently see mentions of Tesla owners buying a second (or third or more) vehicles. That's both GREAT but in terms of conquest sales not so great.

    You know when a dealership isn't telling you the whole truth? Their lips move. NEVER form judgements about buying based solely on their "information"; they always want you to buy TODAY (from them) and not wait.

    it appears the data suggests that many buyers trade into Tesla because efficiency (as well as tech, range & power) is at or near the top of the list of reasons why they switch to Tesla. Also consider from these types of articles;
    Honda's ? One could expect Honda's to be on the list, as the Civic & Accord sell in large volumes.
    BMW 3 ? not so much a big volume seller ... so that may be more significant, as it's a lower volume car, but still a top trade-in.
    Leaf ?!? ick ... trade in's likely due to disappointment via range & battery degradation.
    Prius? like the BMW 3 - not a big volume car, but it makes the list.

    Yes, the conquest data is/was from 2018. Yet Tesla has sold easily over 300K more cars since then - even in 2019 alone;
    [IMG]
    How has that affected continued trade-in / conquests? Wouldn't it mean more of the same? iduno ... but the data might be quite revealing.

    I think our Ev fleet at work is now 24 Leafs, 2 Model 3s, and 2 Bolts. We work together so we talk and the Leaf owners pretty much universally love them.

    Neither of the Model 3 owners traded in a Leaf to get the Model 3. One was an F-150 the other I don't remember.
