Damn, you had me going for a second. I thought they were removing entune entirely. Just when you think it couldn't get any worse... it does. Well done, Toyota infotainment software guys.

UANAL for sure.. but at any rate, the news about degraded media services causes me anxiety induced trauma, so maybe there's a case here somewhere.

You have to take into account that people with Android devices probably ride the bus …

This may be the dumbest comment I've ever read on the internet outside conspiracy theories.

I would like to know the justification behind this statement. I'm an android user and always take my own car. In fact - there is no public transportation option within 60 miles to me. It's one of the things I like about living in small communities - less traffic. Also, I do not like Apple and their proprietary systems. Everything has to go thru them. They don't play well with others.

Now they don't play with themselves that well. The new iPhone X comes with only Lightning connectors, and the new Mac laptops come only with USB C. So you need to buy an adapter to connect your iPhone to your Mac.

SiriusXM is acquiring Pandora. They are interested in some “free funnel” for the in-car radios. No immediate announcements.

Get an update to Entune 4 months ago after complaining for a year and Pandora finally works properly and now they are going to take it away. Toyota way behind in their connectivity and I hope it changes soon. I guess I have to go back to paying for Pandora or start listening to commercials.

So can they "add" Apple play to the existing 2018 model, or should I wait til next year?

Toyota thought they could cash in on the market shift to tablets and smartphones... without experience of 10 years and a billion iOS devices. I hold out hope that we can install another 3rd party infotainment system (CarPlay has security hardware requirements so it’s out) but I’m guessing there’s not enough market for anybody to create it.

I don’t think this will happen - Apple software requires security protocols, which is why you don’t see Airplay compatibility on many commercial available devices. And since Toyota has your $$$, they have 0.0% incentive to upgrade sold cars. But I will still dream...

Toyotoa can get away with this for 3 reasons-
    1. Who cares, they have your $$$
    2. Entune is legally an optional “3rd party” feature, so they aren’t responsible for it
    3. What are you going to do about it?

Honestly, I hate Entune every time I drive OR use the terrible app but Toyota makes money selling cars, not tweaking sold ones.

While a genereralization, he is right- there are income profiles of apple vs Android users. Ask advertisers- they can tell what kind of device you are using to visit webpages with and will alter ads based on expected income bracket.

You’re right, I didn’t think of that. Granted apple wants everything wireless and they will sell you the adapters but they could at least pretend their cared about compatibility...

As a person who refuses to ever pay the Apple premium, I like being viewed as a person with a different economic profile than my actual. Makes it easier to ignore the ads.

Good enough and priced less is how you get to a very positive net worth. Do it long enough ....

Apple iOS is to Google Android as Betamax is to VHS. One is generally considered superior but In 10 years neither will matter.

Stereotypes don't really fit tho. I could easily afford an Apple phone. I just choose the superior product - Android. Several of my family members choose Apple due to it's simplicity. So if anything it should be targeted ads based on tech savvy people (Android users) vs non-tech savvy people (Apple).

I have a problem using a product who’s OS is produced by a company who’s business model is harvesting as much of my personal information as possible.

So, definitely no Apple products (or Google, or Amazon, or Microsoft) for you.

    Not Apple’s business model.
