So you charge during the time of peak grid demand? It would cost me more during the early morning hours to run an appliance and then again in the evening. Afternoon and after midnight are our cheap times which equate to expected/experienced grid demand.

I’ve thought about a coin EV charger. Put in your quarters for a charge … like a laundry mat dryer. But then comes the risk of damage from thieves.

We don’t have Time of Day rates. Once my solar roof is operational, I’ll charge my EV and PHEV on alternate days about 9 AM till done. There will be some tweaking of the amps to optimize solar charging of the cars.

They take a peak of 30-32 A but it may make more sense to charge longer during the day at a lower rate. A work in progress.

Over on the bolt forums, they recommend checking the outlet installed for free by gm’s contracted provider and a local electrician.
Most install a cheapo outlet that can catch fire at the bolts 40 amp max.
There is a recommended outlet that is about $100.

Even if you don't have TOD rates, charging or running a dryer or dishwasher off peak allows the utility to use the greenest power sources and not have run some fossil fuel quick startup generator.

We have three rates and 5 different periods. In addition to the amount used, the peak load factors in to our rates. Makes you very conscious of doing things at the right time...even if I am 25 miles from a Nuclear plant.
